Can I fit different tyres to my X-Type Jaguar to improve the ride quality?

Very good recent article about comfy cars, which has prompted me to seek your advice. I recently purchased an X-Type Jag that has 17-inch alloy wheels, fitted with Michelin 225/45ZR17 Pilot Sport tyres and I am very disappointed with the noisy and harsh ride over potholes and bumps. My previous car, a Mondeo, had 16-inch wheels that rode OK and I am surprised that going up an inch has made all that difference. Would changing the make/design of tyre improve the ride at all? If not I assume the answer is to fit 16-inch wheels. If so, will Mondeo wheels fit the X-Type?

The answer is 16-inch wheels fitted with Michelin Pilot Primacy HPs, or see if you can get the new Michelin Pilot Primacy 3s that are even better.
