Buying a car for 30k miles a year?

I travel around 30,000 miles each year, mainly for business. The family has mainly grown up and gone, so no need for a large estate (currently in a Volvo XC70), although I would require some room in the back for occasional driving holiday, dog, golf clubs, etc.

Keen to keep running and maintenance costs under control. I know that you have recommended the Mondeo in the past. Anything else that may be appropriate?

The Mondeo has now been displaced by the new Mazda 6 as best in class. Best spec is 2.2D 150PS SE-L Nav. Don't go to the Sport with its bigger 19" wheels as the tyres are noisier and more expensive to replace to no real advantage. It handles beautifully on standard 225/55 R17 Toyo Proxes tyres. Saloon or estate. Alternatively the more expensive BMW 320dED that will definitely give over 60mpg.
