Why are the same Mazda and Ford parts priced differently?

My car needs its main body control/fusebox to be replaced and Mazda have quoted £1130 plus VAT - indeed I have ordered and paid for it and am now awaiting its delivery and installation. As it is made by Ford (its name is embossed on the back of the unit) and their equivalent, and similar looking, unit for the Focus range is about £318 plus VAT.

It has occurred to me that there could have been an error when the item was being keyed into Mazda's database (i.e. it could have been that £430, still considerably more than for a Focus, was misread as £1130).

Could this be possible or is it simply excessive profiteering on Mazda's part?

I think you need to demand an explanation. It is a bit different to buy a German made part via Japan, but there is no excuse for it to cost this much more.
