Dashboard information vanished on my Scenic

My wife's 54 plate Renault Scenic with nearly 90 thousand miles on the clock (or was!) has suddenly lost all information on the dashboard - speedometer, fuel gauge - everything.

Our local garage has tried to find the problem with no success, the nearest main dealer's receptionist tell us that it is a known problem and tell us that their 'goodwill price' to fix it will be £150, but the total mileage will be lost along with all other memory.

Is this correct? Surely these days with onboard computers this shouldn't be. Our teenage children use the car as well but without essential information like speed and fuel levels they can't at the moment - the pressure on us is enormous!

The ECU will have retained the information. Your problem is finding someone with the skill and equipment to reprogram this into the information panel. It is a common problem, listed here:
