Volkswagen Golg - Faulty EGR Cooler

I bought a September 2009 Volkswagen Golf 1.6 TDI eight months ago from a main dealer. The car came with with one year's extended warranty. There is now a warning light on, and it's loosing power.

Volkswagen has confirmed that it has a leaking EGR Cooler (costing approx £1000 to fix). The warranty company is refusing to cover it. Volkswagen will cover part replacement as a goodwill gesture, but I have pay 50% labour costs.

I'm told that this is a common fault in these cars. Has anyone had the same issue and did they manage to get warranty company or Volkswagen to foot the bill?

Very common fault - to the extend that, it is a routine maintenance item. Lousy warranty. Reasonable of the dealer/VW to pick up half the cost. Very common for VAG cars to suffer faults just out of warranty. That's why they don't have a five-year warranty.
