Just retired, need advice on what size (and make) of car to buy

I have just retired and my current car is a diesel automatic Skoda Octavia. The car is okay, but does seem rather noisy on some road surfaces. Our driving will be a mix of pottering about South East London (we live in Bromley, Kent) and long distance trips to our holiday lodge in Devon.

Although there are just the two of us we will become grandparents in May next year (they live in Halesowen). Any suggestions on the style and type of car? A large boot/luggage space and economy are key requisites - a Nissan Quashkai is one thought - is this a sensible idea?

An MPV, like a Ford C-Max, makes more sense than an SUV like a Qashqai.
