Can I claim on my insurance for chipped glass without it affecting my protected NCD?

The windscreen of my Alfa 159 has cracked and needs replacing. I'm covered on my insurance (LV) and just pay the excess. Does this affect my protected NCD? I claimed for a minor accident 9 years ago (had protected NCD) and ended up with raised premiums for 5 years. I'm really anxious to avoid this happening again through a claim for the windscreen.

Also I'm concerned about the quality and fit of any replacement. My Alfa glass is stamped with Alfa logo and made by Pilkingtons. I would expect any replacement to be the same. If I have to suffer an increase in premiums for 5 years then I would much rather just pay for the replacement myself.

It is unlikely to result in an increase of premium, but depends on the insurer.
