Crash curse

My husband insures his 2 cars (one, a "workhorse" and the other for smarter occasions) with Liverpool and Victoria, and I insure my Ford Focus with Direct Line. We are both named drivers on the other's policies.

In the last 5 years he has claimed 5 times on his Liverpool and Victoria policy for his cars, and I have claimed twice on my Direct Line for my car. He has now been refused renewal with LV unless I am taken off the policy, as we "have had 7 claims in the past 5 years". I don't understand why my claims, not made to LV, have been taken into consideration for my husband's renewal. I had assumed that insurance companies were separate from each other, but apparently information is shared between them, and used.

Has this always been the case? Is this likely to be the case across all companies or should it be possible to find one that will insure us both on my husband's cars? - it is obviously useful for me to be able to drive his, and I have never had an accident in either of them.

It's because your claims record of 7 claims in 5 years between you makes you as a couple a very bad risk. You need to talk to a good broker, such as www.primoplc.com
