A4 Cabrio hood failure

The hood on my four year old Audi A4 3.2 S-Line convertible stopped working.

The car has only done 16,000 miles. Is this normal on a four year old car?

If not I would expect Audi to admit that the pump was faulty and pay the cost of replacing it. The quote to repair was £1400. Who should pay this bill?

Quite a common failure, yes. If the car is fully Audi maintained, a decent Audi dealer should be able to get a goodwill contribution from Audi. If not fully Audi maintained, much less likely.
