Can I remove my car's daytime running lights?

The LED daytime running light (DRL) on the offside of my i10 is broken. Can I switch them off or remove them?

My local Hyundai dealer said the part is a staggering £377. They will have to remove the front bumper to access it which is adding to the cost. I am tempted to just ask them to disconnect the nearside one and drive without DLRs. Can I legally do this?

LEDs are designed to last the life of the car. It would take a fault or serious form of damage for them to fail.

DRLs are not an MoT testable item on cars first registered before 1 March 2018. But it might be an idea to get a quote from an independent Hyundai specialist, as DLRs are an important safety feature of your car and a local garage may be able to replace them at a much lower cost than the Hyundai dealer.
