Disadvantages of EU5 diesels

"Peugeot only expects to sell 8,500 508s in the UK in a full year, split 50/50 saloon/SW and 80/20 diesel/petrol, though, once the public starts to catch on to the disadvantages of EU5 diesels, I expect a significant move back to petrol."

The above from your review of the new Peugeot 508, what are the disadvantages of EU5 diesels?

Diesel Particulate Filters mean that the cars cannot be driven short distances from cold without them clogging, and they anyway only last around 80k miles and cost £500 to £1,000 to replace.

Exhaust Gas Recirculation valves tend to last about 5 years and cost £500 - £1,000 to replace.

Dual Mass Flywheels fitted to all four cylinder manual diesels tend to last 40k - 100k miles and, together with a clutch, cost around £1,200 - £1,500 to replace.

Turbos on diesels are fairly prone to failure and cost £1,500 - £2,000 to replace.

And the diesel engines fitted to Peugeots are all timing belt engines, requiring a new belt and tensioner around every 60k miles costing around £500.
