Can you recommend a smaller alternative to the Ford Kuga?

I have been driving Ford Kugas for 12 years very happily but now want a smaller car. Safety and build quality matter, preferably not high mileage and a good reliable engine. Any ideas please?

If you'd like to keep within the Ford stable check out the latest Puma or Focus. If reliability matters most then we'd be looking towards brands such as Lexus, Toyota, Hyundai, Kia and Skoda, all of which rank highly in our Satisfaction Index with owners.
