Clever Tever

Bearing in mind recent discussion on the Teves Mk 60 ABS system, I have a two-year-old Altea XL 2.0 DSG with which I am very happy and had intended to make it the last car I own. I do about 6,000 miles a year. As you suggest that the problem is age-related, should I consider changing cars at the three-year guarantee breakpoint? Could you also say whether this problem will be fixed under dealer warranty and more importantly, if I take out an annual Warranty Direct policy at the three year point, will failure of the Teves unit be covered? Many thanks for a great and informative column.

I have made WD aware of this problem so it may well not warrant the part on the grounds that it is a known problem that was developing before the WD warranty was taken out. What actually has to happen is for manufacturers of these cars with this time bomb inside them to offer reassurance for their customers otherwise, as I wrote, all these cars on the used market will immediately devalue by the amount they cost to fix. Happily, that’s a lot less now as a British company has come up with a reasonably priced permanent cure. More at: ecutesting.com/vw_golf_touran_abs_pump_module.html
