Thaid cottages

If I understand correctly, you have a house and farm in Thailand? I also have a house there and currently have a 2-year-old Toyota Vios. I'm considering changing it. However, car prices being so steep over there I'm unsure what to get. With the cost of fuel having risen significantly I'd like something economical, but with more room than the Vios. I paid 450,000 Thai baht for the Vios last year, and wouldn't want to pay more than another 300,000 baht for a good used car. I'm hoping I'd get about 300,000 Thai baht for the Vios.

We too have a Vios, and ‘she who must be supported’ had it blinged with remarkable results this time last year. If I was you and I ‘owned’ an old shape Vios auto, I'd hang on to it. Ours has done nearly 130k kilometres with no serious problems, and if anything does go wrong almost anyone can fix it. A new Honda City is marginally less economical, despite a 5-speed autobox. The latest Vios is bloatedly ugly. After that you're up to a Corolla Altis (Bangkok taxi), and the only way they are more economical (in cash) is with a boot-full of LPG tank. Unless automatic, they are very low geared. Diesel pick-ups are much less economical. The best (Isuzu D-Max, Chevrolet Colorado) 2.5 iTEQ and 3.0 iTEQ do about 35 - 36mpg. The others, including Fortuners, do around 30mpg. Toyota Wish, etc, are even heavier on the juice. About 25 - 30mpg.
