A Grand Monday: DAF 44 30 Jan 2017 (News)
Its trucks are conventional, reliable and earn their keep on motorways across Europe, where they're respected as the standard bearer for what a lorry should represent. In truck terms, then, a DAF is like a Ford Fiesta. A default choice. Something sensible, functional, capable and ordinary. It's a far cry from the Dutch manufacturer's car making days, where it offered rear-wheel-drive small saloons. The original DAF Daffodil from 1959 and its successor, the 33, used a 746cc air-cooled engine, while in 1964 the DAF 44 was introduced, powered by an upgraded 844cc engine developing a heady 34bhp. -
A Grand Monday: Peugeot 405 21 Nov 2016 (News)

After all – most people who go for power and pace aren’t too worried about practicality – but there are some about at this level. There's the similar age Ford Mondeo ST which came as an estate (and was a favourite with the boys in blue) and the Vauxhall Insignia VXR Sports Tourer, but while it’s far more powerful, it’s also far more thirsty.
