  I realise coolant expands when hot, does it contract much when the air temperature outside of the car is say +4c to -2c. Many thanks.

  my german sports car may have a slight coolant leak, trouble is the engine is hidden so I cant eyeball - is it possible for a garage to pressure test the system? - many thanks.

  If I wait 12 hours before opening the expansion tank cap the coolant level does not increase and it stays at it's lower level. I notice mild coolant leaks from one side of the radiator wall and from 2 coolant hose junctions. Basically then my coolant system is drawing in air, if I do not bleed this air off the built up pressurised air in the expansion tank pushes coolant out of the minor coolant system holes.

  Volvo xc 90 D5, using coolant, no contamination of oil or coolant, no roasting, warning light indicates low coolant level, no evidence of leaks, any suggestions of where the coolant is going and fix...i suspect head gasket but would like opinions, many thanks. mike.

  I've noticed the coolant level on my Megane is below minimum. It's service is due towards the end of the year but I know I should top the coolant up now. what do you reckon I should use? Distilled water or coolant - and if so, which coolant?

  would mixing different type of coolant be any problem? I saw on the website someone mention that different types of car should use different coolant, could anyone recommend which coolant I should go for? And if I filling my coolant, do I need to clear the old coolant first?

  Does anyone know if Toyota pre mixed red coolant is OAT ? I drained out the pink coolant from  my peugeot 107 which I believed to be OAT and replaced it with the aforementioned coolant. There seems to a lot of confusion with the earlier concentrated red Toyota coolant when I searched for information.

  tried stop leak, flushed system new lid on coolant bottle new thermostat Temp ok etc, etc. car loosing coolant with lots of pressure in exp tank - so i cannot refil with coolant as it tries to shower me in hot liquid!

  Does anyone know when the radiator should be flushed and the coolant changed on the 2011 Ford Ka please?  I can't find it anywhere.  Also, the coolant that is in is Arteco Haveline XLC, could I use an equivalent coolant for topping up?  Thanks.

  Going to need an expert here. I had to top up the Peugeots coolant. Is normal blue coolant compatible with Peugeot coolant? I haven't got another bottle of Peugeot coolant to compare against, it was all used when the water pump was done with cambelt. I sucked up some with some clear hose and it didn't really have a colour.

  My engine coolant is very low, and needs topping up / replacing. The current coolant is green. I went to halfords and they had red or blue coolant. The red seemed to be post 1997 and blue for older cars. Am I ok to use this blue coolant to top up my current green coolant?

  I have Partner 2l HDI. Coolant level is below minimum and needs topping up. Handbook gives no guidance as to what to top up with. As level is low I can't see the actual colour of the coolant except through the coolant overflow container wall where it looks straw coloured, but this might be the plastic of the wall itself (i.e. coolant could be clear).

  My Neighbours \'94 Omega Elite 3.0 saloon (auto) has developed a curious coolant leak; He tops up the coolant in the morning when cold and drives to work (15 miles suburban), no overheating or coolant level warning lights. He checks the coolant after 2-3 hours - the level\'s fine.

  We have a ford escort 1989 auto 1.6. Only done 63,000 miles coolant last changed over 10 years ago. There is no discolouration but Ford no longer makes coolant we used. Ours is dark blue in coolant tank. I read new coolant from Ford isn't suitable for old models.

  If the coolant is S-LLC then obviously I don't have to worry, but can these 2 coolants be recognised visually by colour? I'm not sure which one it has. Thanks in advance.

  Since the cylinder head has been replaced with a skimmed unit, the coolant level has been of this order: last Saturday picked up car - noticed trickle of coolant thru filler hole after driving home. Sunday still trickling out. Decided to check coolant level each am when engine cold Monday; column of coolant measured 29 cm (manufacturer recommends 25 to 30 cm) coolant still trickling out during use.

  I have just replaced the waterpump / thermostat on my 96 Golf. Replaced the coolant with Mobil 'Advanced' coolant (pink in colour). I've noticed that after a journey, there is a trace of evapourated pink coolant on the water pump which disappears after a couple of hours with no visible loss of coolant.

  Hi,   The Coolant light came on my dash the other day and says in the handbook that it lights up when the "coolant level low/coolant temperature too high". I checked the coolant reservoir and it is full of oil.

  Annoyed with myself - haven't checked the coolant recently in my Corolla 1.4, and now noticed it is v.low. What coolant would HJ readers recommend ? Will I have damaged the engine (last checked 9 months ago in service and OK) ? How do you check the condition of the coolant that's in ?
