Why do you say that it is dangerous for automatic drivers not to left-foot brake? 13 Nov 2010 (Ask HJ)

2014 Audi A1 1.6 TDI - Rear Brakes Sticking? 22 Mar 2023 (Forum)
I park my car in a garage, with the handbrake off. When it has been parked for a few days, the rear brakes seem to be stuck on and it requires some effort to get the car to move, as if something is sticking on the rear wheels, despite me parking it with the handbrake off. The brakes are not binding as far as I can tell. -
Audi A4 B6 - Brake warning light on first thing 29 Dec 2020 (Forum)
The brake warning light comes on first thing but goes out when I press the pedal The pads are fine but when I tried to fill the reservoir I was unable to get any fluid past the filter in the neck of the filler. -
SEAT IBIZA MK 4 - SEAT IBIZA MK4 - Brake fluid needs changing? 16 Nov 2019 (Forum)
Hi Folks I have had a reminder from my local dealer that the car brake fluid needs changing. They claim that the fluid needs to be changed every 2 years. However, when I am driving, the foot and hand brake seem to be fine. Do you think the fluid does really need changing or is it a money making exercise? -
Vauxhall Corsa C - Corsa C rear brake imbalance 19 Nov 2018 (Forum)
Hi there, My Corsa recently failed its MOT, due to a 'significant L - R imbalance' on the rear brakes. Apparently this could be a brake compensator valve, or possibly the master cylinder. I was surprised to hear that it could be the master cylinder, as I thought that supplied hydraulic pressure to the entire system, the distribution to individual wheels being undertaken by the proportioning/compensator valves or whatever? -
Megane 2008 - Pas front brake hissing after disc/pad replacement 28 Sep 2018 (Forum)
Hi, Had someone to replace pads and discs all around today. Have noticed when the ignition is on and I press the brake pedal that there is a noise which sounds exactly like a bicycle pump coming from the passenger side front footwell. Only happens when I press the brake down. Not hvingg an idea about cars....any ideas? -
BMW 1series diesel - Brake servo problems 23 Sep 2017 (Forum)
Hi I've a question regarding brake servo on my car. I seem to be losing assistance from servo if I use the brakes quickly in succession. I've pulled off the vacuum pipe going into the servo and when suck through it I can't get a vacuum just keep drawing air. -
Renault Grand Scenic 2011 - Brakes 12 Mar 2016 (Forum)
Had my car MOT'd in December which it passed but came away with the note that the Brake Pads would probably need replacing soon. I am getting the message Error on Parking Brake would one affect the other? As I am Female I am sorry to say that I never feel Garages are telling me the truth when I ask what really needs doing any advice would be appreciated. -
Audi A4 - Audi A4 Electronic Brake 3 May 2014 (Forum)
The electronic parking brake on my 2008 2ltr diesel model has developed a fault. The automatic release facility no longer works, so I have to use manual release by depressing the foot brake, this is tricky when on a slope. I have been told by my independent Audi garage that the clutch cylinder will need to be replaced as the faulty switch is part of it. -
Smart Fortwo - front brakes both seized 15 Feb 2012 (Forum)
What would cause both front brakes to seize when the engine is running? If i open thebleed nipple to release the pressure, the wheel frees up but without the bleed nipple open, the pistons wont push in. I thought it might be te servo but the rear wheels are fine which is really odd at as i beleive these cars operate a dual line braking system. -
Brake lights on all the time 16 Dec 2011 (Forum)
I have just driven home from work and I passed a Merc which had brake lights on and the little bar of lights in the back window too. Most off-putting as you approach as it makes you think there's a hazard/cutting up etc ahead. How can he have managed that?! Wiring may have gone awry but can you drive an automatic with the 'brake' still on? -
Honda CRV-EX Auto. 2009 - Honda CRV - excessive rear brake noise 30 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Excessive noise from rear wheels when braking. Car has <7,000 miles on it and has made the noise since new. Since the noise only occurs when braking it's presumably unlikely to be a differential problem. Right? Also, the Honda dealer has looked at the discs amd pads and reckons they're O.K. -
Electric parking brakes and the driving test 3 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I'm sure I have read somewhere that an 'L' driver cannot take the DSA driving test in a car fitted with an 'automatic release' electric parking brake (eg some Renaults, Citroens, etc) because of the way in which these brakes simplify a hill start. You just press the pedal and go. I can find no reference to this on the DSA website, however. Can anyone confirm this please -- if it is so, I would apreciate chapter and verse. -
Do I need to replace a PAIR of brake hoses? 11 Apr 2009 (Forum)
hi, do i need to replace a pair of brake hoses? the mot advised that one of the brake hoses is deteriorated. ive been on a 25 mile round trip to pick up a pair but they only had one. if i have to replace both ill swallow it up and go back, but if it wont affect the performance or safety ill just swap the deteriorated hose. incidentally ill bleed both sides regardless.
