  • Vauxhall Mokka X - Flushing The Engine / Renewing Brake Fluid 20 Feb 2024 (Forum)
Hi all, What's your thoughts on flushing your car engine and renewing the brake fluid when you have your car serviced ? When we use our main dealer we're always asked if we want the engine flushed, and the brake fluid changed, these add-ons last time were £30 each adding £60 to our bill.
  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 2005 1.6 tdci Zetec Poor brakes 26 Mar 2016 (Forum)
My Mk2 Focus has disc front / drum rear brakes that I think perform poorly. The pedal has a "wooden" feel such that I have to press really hard to achieve much braking effort. ( The pedal does not sink down when braking. ) The handbrake also needs to pulled hard when parking, and if tried whilst moving gives little real retardation.
  • Ford Mondeo - Wear on rear brakes 4 Jul 2013 (Forum)
I've got a couple of questions that I'm hoping you folks could maybe help me with. 1) Have I paid over the odds for the rears brakes? (in London) 2) Is that amount of wear unusual for a car that has only done 30,000 miles? I do tend to coast down hills (of which there are a few), and so rely on the brakes rather than engine braking.
  • vw passat 1.8 turbo 1998 - problem with front drivers side brake 22 Jun 2011 (Forum)
it started with the brake calliper on the front drivers side locking out on me and i only just made it into a car park, i stripped the brake down and couldn't push piston back to put new pads on (new caliper needed), also because i drove it for a couple of miles the front drivers side got very hot and melted the abs sensor wire(actual wires seem undamaged) replaced caliper and pads but now wont pressurise and abs light on on dashboard now, also tried new flexi hose but still nothing, the other 3 brakes still work although wen u brake the pedal down it goes right to the floor before they work, not sure if its master cylinder or something to do with abs, brake fluid pumps through pipes but as soon as i put them on the caliper nothing happens doesnt even pump through bleeding nipple, any ideas or some1 with same problem please help as it will save me a lot of money putting the car in the garage or doing unnecassary diagnostics, thanks
  • Citroen AX (1987 -1997) - 1989 1.1 RE, trouble with front brakes 16 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Reliable old AX11 that always starts well and runs well. Has been a cheap car to run and not much has gone wrong. Recently when braking sharply the N/S front wheel seems to lock up but the car does not pull to N/S when applying the brakes. Brakes work OK it is just that they now lock up a wheel when they did not do this before. There is no ABS on this old car.
  • Peugot 405TD Brakes 18 Nov 2006 (Forum)
It is fitted with the Bendix ABS system. It has had to have a lot of work for the MOT, including all of the rear brake lines. However, the bloke who did the work, fitted the pipes to the compensator incorrectly. The meant the car had front brakes only for a few days. I finally gave in and let a garrage do it. They managed to get pressure back to the rear brakes but there is now another problem: The servo *SEEMS* to be working okay - with the engine off you press the brake, turn the engine on and your foot moves down a bit.
  • Mercedes Vito Van - REVISED (2000 Model) 14 Feb 2006 (Forum)
p=999&gid=9235478&uid=4372401&members=1 My questions would be 1) Does anyone have any specific technical information on the braking system of the vito van? 2) Can anyone shed some light as to any possible problems with the braking system (ABS, disc brakes etc.) that could have caused the wheels to lock up immediately after they were applied?
  • Fiesta Brakes?!?! Arrghhhh 1 Jan 2004 (Forum)
THe light began to light up on a few more gentle hills and now, does it quite a lot. Now before you go screaming that I have been driving around with faulty brakes I must point out the following. a) The brake fluid is at the right level b) The light illunminates sometimes even when not braking I have been told that the brake pads on the Ghia models have sensors in to warn when they are low but like I mentioned earlier, I\'m not always braking when the light lights up.

  • 2014 Audi A1 1.6 TDI - Rear Brakes Sticking? 22 Mar 2023 (Forum)
I park my car in a garage, with the handbrake off. When it has been parked for a few days, the rear brakes seem to be stuck on and it requires some effort to get the car to move, as if something is sticking on the rear wheels, despite me parking it with the handbrake off. The brakes are not binding as far as I can tell.
