  Well maintained etc; Working fine and then go to start it again and nothing.AA called(lovely people) he said it could be immobilizer,so stuck between devil and deep blue sea. He says "do the right thing and take it to main dealer" OH! Yes,we all know where that leads!It must be something fairly simple,any ideas? Is it simple or a wallet thrashing? The Baldyman

  Leading on from the 4 police car thread: Did anyone get caught up in the chaos in Hull yesterday? A minor accident at 5am involving a lorry and a car blocked the main A63 serving Hull centre just in time for the 8am rush hour - total gridlock across the whole city.

  As I understand it, The Rover V6 has very naroow cooling passages in the cylinder head: any blockages will lead to localised boiling. And with Rover's poor engineering history you can be sure once that happnes - and it may happen without any external signs - the gasket could go at anytime. Like 30 minutes. 3: My respomnse is I would never buy anything manuafactrued by Rover: cars , engines gearboxes . anything.

  An article in today's Observer confirms what many here have been saying for some time. See http://tinyurl.com/38hcw The article argues that lack of enforcement is leading to more deaths and an increase in drink driving. One notable statistic is that the number of dedicated traffic officers in 2001-02 was just under 6,500 but 8,900 ten years before. (Not added to the speeding or speed camera threads because it touches on issues wider than that.)

  Hi, My 1984 golf starts to misfire when hitting 40 in fourth gear. I have checked/cleaned all the plugs and leads and after initial promising results it came back again a few short hours later. Some other advise has been to replace my fuel pump as this may be petrol starvation. Has anybody got any further advise as to stop this annoying occurance?

Congestion charging for buses, new roads for London and the man himself leading a rally in Trafalgar Square protesting about fuel duty, screaming "Can't pay, won't pay" through a megaphone? Maybe we've misjudged him. The man's a closet Petrol Head, just waiting for the politically oppotune moment to show his true colours and seize power as The Motorist's Champion.

  Am surprised not to see any comments re Fenton Breslers article in Saturdays Telegraph in which he states under Headlights and Front Foglights and I quote,these must be used when visibility is less than 100metres whatever time day or night and Always during the hours of darkness I foresee this latter misinformation on the use of Front Foglights leading to even more idiots using them illegally in clear conditions.   I replaced the ignition module the other day and now get a spark when I first turn then key to the on position, however when I crank the engine there is still no spark at all. Before that I had no spark at all. So far I have replaced: Spark plugs HT leads Distributor rotor arm Distributor cap Coil Ignition module. Any suggestions on what to try next. Thanks in advance.

  I am by my own admission a bit of a car cleaning freak, wash the car weekly come rain or shine, wax every fortnight, I've even recently discovered the delights of "wheel wax ", my question is what is the consensus on the use of tyre black? Been reading recently that  heavy use of it can lead to tyre damage....any thoughts chaps? Must add that I've never noticed any effects but thought it may be a interesting subject for discussion.

  ive a escort mk 4 fitted with a 1987 fiesta engine 1.3, its been running fine but now no spark at plugs, its got a bosch electronic ignition,ive checked that after reading on here a article and i have a spark at the coil end of the lead, but nothing at the plugs,took  the cap off,what a job dead tight cleaned inside but there was only about a 1/4 in carbon bush in the end on a spring, got that free put it back still nothing,help please,

  Hi, My 2007 Landrover Freelander will not lock my car with the key fob. The car starts and stops with no problem using the key fob. I am lead to believe that the battery in the key fob charges everytime it is inserted into the ignition when starting the car so i am thinking the key fob is charged. Has anyone any suggestions why my car will not lock using the key fob?

  I love the cmax for its comfort but I have read that the 1600 pug engine has injector issues which lead to blowing the turbo. Do you know if this has been resolved prior to 2015? I usually keep my cars up to 150k.

   suspect this is partly (or so a dealer told me) due to people trying to buy to avoid paying new tax rates. so,  is it likely that car sales will drop in april, leading to more stock and better deals/offers coming out April onwards?

  I have checked battery 12.8v, meter onto engine from battery live is showing the same voltage. jumped car and starts but dies very quickly after leads are removed. Any ideas? Cheers in advance

  I filled the tank up to full and so far have done approx 170 miles to half a tank, and my own workings lead me to assume that I am getting about 30mpg? Has any other V50 drivers come accross this issue? Cheers

  my vw polo cuts out completely randomly; Idling, accelerating, slowing down, traveling at a constant speed. so far, it has had 3 different coils fitted, new plug leads, new distributor, new crank shaft censor lambda censor has been cleaned. throttle body cleaned. completely out of ideas. has this problem been heard of before? any solutions?   I now want to fit a DVD player (or a combined HD/DVD recorder), and I do not want to have to smash-up the wall in order to fit a concealed SCART lead! Is there a simple solution to my problem? Is it possible to get a HD/DVD recorder with a coaxial output or alternatively buy a module that will convert the SCART output to a coaxial one? Thanks for any advice.

  The gauge says there's petrol in the tank although I thought I'd smell some if engine turning and not starting. I haven't. I've checked all fuses and all ok.   I bought the tool for changing the cambelt for my 2005 saab tid 150bhp, used autodata outline, lined marks up on pulleys to belt, locked up cam, locked up crank. But it wont start, it almost offers then slows right up, had battery charged and jump leads onto the battery, had starter off and tested and put back on.
