Toyota Prius - Dealer Car Purchase Knowledge Is Power 25 Mar 2025 (Forum)
Along with them advertising it with part service history but when I asked to see the service history there was none. I am awaiting the V5C in the post but was given the green slip. I thought I'd have a look at the cars VIN numbers as wanted the owners manual from the Toyota website as didn't come with one included. So I go and check the VIN on the doors, the drivers door VIN was different than the other doors so it would have to have been replaced, assuming due to an accident. -
bmx x6 - I Bought a Stolen Car without Knowing 26 Jan 2013 (Forum)
We went into the house which I assumed was the sellers sons house it looked very normal and lived in. in the kitchen i handed over the cash and the sellers son handed me the paper work for the car included the MOT/service history book and car v5c documents and the Manuel book for the car. I left the area very happy with my car. a week later i sent the log book to DVLA to Land Rover Discover 4 Landmark - HPICheck.com not honouring '£30,000 Guarantee' 5 Jun 2021 (Forum)
I paid £17,000 and negotiated him down with it as they guy told me he was selling up and moving abroad because of Brexit, hence getting rid of the car and needing cash. All ID was checked and legit. Address was legit and on V5C which was also legit. VIN numbers were also present and looked fine too... When the car turned out to be cloned HPIcheck.com refused to honour contract and cover as paid in cash, yet no mention other than buried away at the bottom of their T's & C's and not on main guarantee page. -
VW Polo - 80+ bus lane fines - haven't received any letters 10 Nov 2018 (Forum)
They are asking for the registered keeper to contact them (they think this is still my father), however I have changed the V5C registration over to my name. Besides, it was me who committed these offences in the first place. My father has not been in the UK for 3+ years. I have given Manchester City Council all of my savings and have had to borrow £1500+ from my mother to pay off the initial fines. -
Ford Focus - Trader posed as private- Car was a Cat-C before 25 Sep 2013 (Forum)
- Agreed to purchase the car in 2 days and had it dropped off at our address, where we paid by bank transfer. We didn't check the V5C when signing, (he wasn't the registered keeper) also didn't enquie about a receipt as we thought with bank transfer we don't need it. After looking closely, we found out (MyCArCheck website) that it has been a Cat C in 2010, the receipts he provided from work done on the car been fake- I went to the garage where it was from and they told me they haven't done that work on it. -
Fabia Elegance Estate 105 CR TDi - HARSH RIDE FABIA 12 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Of course the full size spare is 195/55/R15 85H, but can only be used in an emergency, according to SUK - SE owners beware! Have checked my V5c Registration details for Type/Variant/Version & approval number, against the German Skoda Database. It shows the following wheels/tyres as approved for my car:- 185/55 R15 85H & M+S spec tyres - rims 6J x 15 H2 offset 43 185/60 R15 85H - rims 6J x 15 H2 offset 43 195/55 R15 85H - rims 6J x 15 H2 offset 43 205/45 R16 83H - rims 6.5J x 16 H2 offset 43 I have had a high regard for the Skoda brand until now, but feel that Skoda UK have dropped the ball on this occasion. -
Audi A4 B7 (2005 - 2008) - Six sensible steps to buying a car privately? 18 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I said he could only have this if a) he accompanied me into the bank and accepted the transfer in front of witnesses/cameras and b) he brought me several proofs of his identity and his right to sell the car on his father's behalf. 5) The V5 was watermarked and appeared authentic, the serial number was not in the stolen risk range, the details matched the car to the letter and had been signed away by his father (or someone??). Chassis and engine numbers matched the HPI/V5C paperwork, although it proved impossible to find more than one example of each (in the windscreen and in the engine bay). He showed me his driving licence, a copy of his latest mortgage statement and his father's life assurance policy with addresses to match, providing me with photocopies of each to take away, despite these containing sensitive personal information. -
Buying a car from Far Far Away 6 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I jumped back into the car and we drove back to his office to do the transaction. Bearing in mind I still had to check through the V5C. The transaction hadn't even started at this point. The V5C was checked over, the registered keeper was him at the address I was at. All seemed in order so I handed over the readies, which he counted in front of me. we both then signed 2 copies of a bill of sale (lifted with kind permission from the AA website), and each kept a copy. -
Vehicle Excise Duty - Motorist entrapment 14 Mar 2025 (Forum)
So it was that shortly before Christmas last year when I changed my car, the new buyer got me to register the transaction online, and also the seller. Within days I had received a fresh logbook (V5C) from the DVLA, confirming the changes of ownership. One of the notices came with an insert telling me not to worry if the changes weren’t immediately registered, and even to ignore any penalty charge notices from local DVLA offices. -
Help with an HPI report... 30 Mar 2013 (Forum)
Vehicle Ownership There are many circumstances where the 'owner' of a vehicle is not the 'keeper' as recorded on the DVLA V5C document. These circumstances are described in more detail in the notes accompanying each alert register. -
Vauhall Zafira - Faulty Used Car 23 Mar 2011 (Forum)
He was not at all interested in refunding my money or dealing with any issues over the car, merely in securing the return of his phone. He told me he couldn't take the car back as I had no V5C to transfer ownership back to him and that it "wasn't as simple" as giving a refund. He got quite abusive so I hung up. I then receive a message telling me he was going to clamp the car and charge me for storing it on private property and report me for theft of his phone. -
Audi A3 - Driving Another Car, Uninsured, Possible Penalties 13 Nov 2012 (Forum)
They came back and said there are no Named Drivers on the policy and requested I provide the insurance and registration documents to the Police station within 7 days. I never received the full V5 registration document, so last week I sent the V5C back to the DVLA with a covering letter explaining it had now been 8 weeks since I bought the car and still haven't received the V5 to this date. I still have no registration document, and have been unable to contact the DVLA today (Sunday, closed).
