  • New Skoda Octavia 4x4 Estate 23 Jan 2001 (News)
It has the same sophisticated Haldex clutched 4x4 system as the Audi TT, together with ABS, EDS, ASR and ESP, so traction is not going to be a problem in winter driving conditions. The engine is the VAG 150bhp 1.8 litre 20v Turbo as found in Golfs and Audis, giving the car a top speed of 130mph plus. Wheels are 16" alloys so drivers should not feel as much weight transfer as they can in Octavias with tall profile tyres.

With it the driver could select from four different drive modes - Sand, Snow, Mud and ESP. Not as effective as a four-wheel drive offering that some rivals can produce, but a useful add-on for those customers who might visit work sites, or live in remoter areas in winter.

  • Used Van Buying Guide: Transit Connect 2014 - 2019 21 Nov 2019 (News)
That’s obvious when you drive it. Ford has long had a reputation for developing fine-driving vehicles, and while that’s perhaps not at the top of the list of buyer’s requirements, it does make a difference when you’re sat in one all day.
  • Historics 23rd November Catalogue Now on Sale 11 Nov 2019 (News)
It stops as well as it goes by virtue of ventilated brake discs and four piston front calipers. These cars are good to drive even when a bit baggy, but this perfect example should be sensational. Estimated at £37,000 to £42,000. Lot 207 is a 1958 Porsche 356A coupe.
  • Are future classics a thing of the past? 15 Jun 2016 (News)
The same can be said from any car built up until the mid-2000s, when complex multiplex wiring and drive-by-wire systems started to become commonplace, along with even more complicated and stringent emissions controls. Under the bonnet of most pre-2005 cars, I don’t need a bigger and beefier computer at the other end to tell me what’s wrong, whereas with most modern cars, especially the more interesting ones, I do.

  • A Grand Monday: Toyota Celica GT 8 Apr 2019 (News)
If you fancy yourself as Carlos Sainz, then do bear in mind that the car is only a two-wheel-drive  Toyota Celica GT 16v  and not a genuine GT4, but it sure looks the part. We even wonder if the vendor hired in a snow machine especially when he took the pics, as with the white steel wheels it helps to deliver the full Monte Carlo rally look… At £750, it’s not bad money for a seemingly solid and rot-free Celica, even in a standard colour scheme.
