  • Death by Dangerous Driving 3 Dec 2001 (Forum)
The chap who is up for causing death by dangerous driving, as far as I understand, was deprived of sleep, which lead to him falling asleep at the wheel. How many of us, hand on heart, can honestly say that we haven't ever driven when we think we shouldn't be (either extremely tired or otherwise). What would your bosses say if you said you weren't going to go to an appointment/meeting because you were too tired?
  • Ex-Rental Car a bad thing? 25 Oct 2001 (Forum)
I have just checked the comments regarding Toyota Avensis' on this site and was interested to read that many nearly new ones are ex-rental/lease. My suspision was raised, which lead to cheaking the identity of the one previous owner - true enough it was an Avis outlet in South-West London, unknown to myself. The car has done 18,000 and is two years old. I very recently purchased it from my local Toyota Dealership and they are attending to a number of minor faults, including a missing spare wheel!
  • toyota rav 4 2007 - RAV 4 cockup!!!! 26 Feb 2024 (Forum)
Hello All, i decided to clean the injectors on my RAV 4 D4D 2007, which were badly carbonized and the spray pattern was out...i refitted them and the car started and ran a lot better than before, we had real issues even starting with the clogged injectors....Unfortunately for me, i did not change the small rubber join on the injector shaft which has lead to some problems... After a week or so of normal driving, the rav had sudden runaway acceleration, a bloom of white smoke and came to a stop.  I have since changed the small rubber joints and refitted the injectors, but the car will not start,  the starter cranks but no combustion at all.....I was thinking of the Turbo?
  • Toyota MR2 - Vecta immobiliser 15 Jun 2023 (Forum)
We (my trusted local garage actually) have just completed a recommissioning, with all fluids changed, new plugs, HT leads, coil, distributor cap, etc. The fuel pump has also been replaced and tank flushed out. All was well until it has suddenly started cutting out and the engine stops slowly (in other words as though a fuelling problem rather than electrical).
  • Premium Location Fee 29 Sep 2022 (Forum)
I recently got caught out by a nice little earner run by one of the leading car hire firms. I knew in advance that the standard limited mileage might not be quite enough to cover my three days' hire, but it was likely to be roughly the same as paying the extra for a flat rate.
  • Hyundai i30 - Gearbox/clutch problems 18 Apr 2021 (Forum)
Hi i bought a used 2017  Hyundai i30 1.4t 27.00 from a main dealer about a month ago and the gearbox has always been notchy leading to ponderous gear changes feels like a clutch thing but clutch still bites early. I read quite a bit on world wide forums about problems with either gearbox or clutch problems. Can anyone else confirm these problems and what they usually are?.

But, as far as internals go, what should I do? It runs well as is. Did cars in 1967 still run on leaded gas? If so, what do I need to do to convert it over to unleaded? What about the crankshaft, you're supposed to use zinc additive to protect the lobes or something, is there anything I can do about that?
  • Any - Travelling in convoy 30 Oct 2018 (Forum)
Civilian convoys are illegal in many countries but not, I believe, UK. It can be dangerous e.g. encouraging tail enders to jump lights to keep up and leading cars to pay too much attention to the following group at the expense of watching the road ahead. The only legit civilian convoy I can envisage is a cortege which surely anyone with decency would make allowances for anyway.
  • suggestions for what to have checked. 3 Apr 2018 (Forum)
My car pulls left, then other times pulls right... if i hold the steering wheel tightly the car will go straight which leads me to believe the actual tracking is straight... but something else is bent/moving/shifting to cause the car to want to pull either left or right. Along with the pulling, the way the car makes contact with the road also changes or feels like it does....enough to make me need to slow going into corners. i know when the issue has shifted not only by the which way it pulls but also by how the car feels in regards to contact with the road as crazy as it sounds through the seat.
  • GOLF TDI Bluemotion - Misfuel 3 Dec 2015 (Forum)
I got towed to the dealership where i purchased the car and they have said the main fuel pump is broken which has affected the leads and sensors?? Anyway they are saying this can be caused by a misfuel, putting unleaded into a diesel. I can 110% state i have not done this and i had done about 225 miles from a full tank before the car failed.

  • Peugeot 106 - Peugeot 106 Cutting Out (Only After Being Parked). 20 Sep 2015 (Forum)
If I wait a few minutes, it starts again and often drives as normal, as if nothing has happened. I've changed the plugs and filters and cleaned the leads. I was wondering if it could be the Coil Pack? I have read that the Ignition Control Module is another common problem, but I'm not sure if mine has one. It does have fuel injection. I would really appreciate any help and suggestions as to what I can try next.
  • any - modern cars 28 Aug 2015 (Forum)
Been having me ear bent by SWMBO, a lady fiend of hers visited today and drove her new Vauxhall (model unknown it was a big un) onto our steep lead in ramp. When she went to leave she couldn't get it out, not unusual, its quite shocking how many drivers of both sexes can't do a hill start in reverse...quite why they don't reverse onto our drive i can't say but that's not the purpose of the post...so SWMBO as so often reversed the car out for her.
  • 2001 VW Golf 1.4 - Please explain this air intake to me? 28 Apr 2015 (Forum)
http://s8.postimg.org/6i042jvt1/engine.jpg The yellow spraypaint circle shows the plastic air pipe in question, which leads to the air filter housing.   Inside this pipe is a flap (red circle position) which blocks air coming in the hole where the white arrow is. I can push this flap down to the purple circle postion which then blocks the air coming from the green arrow tube, and vise-versa.
  • Ford Focus - Focus Speedo Problem 5 Nov 2014 (Forum)
It only seems to happen in the winter, and usually on wet days, so I'm wondering if the lead coming off it is at fault or something. Sometimes the odometer goes to ------, sometimes it doesn't.  Sometimes the yellow skid light comes on, sometimes it doesn't.  Sometimes the engine management light comes on, sometimes it doesn't.
  • Alfa Romeo 156 - Engine Temperature gauge not working Alfa Romeo156 12 Jan 2014 (Forum)
He also says there are no warning lights present on the dash. I have previously has a Saab 93 with thermostat issues that lead to a head gasket failure in less than a week. So am weary of this 156's issue. I'd be travelling from London to Huddersfield. Is this car a risk or an easy fix?  Thanks for reading and any help and advice that can be given
  • Toyota Carina E 1.8GS Petrol 1997 Manual - Intermittent Misfire 14 Oct 2013 (Forum)
It doesn't seem to happen when the engine is cold, only when it's thoroughly warm. It has just had new plugs and HT leads but this hasn't made any difference. The distributor cap was dusty but this has been cleaned out and it has no signs of cracking. The pins in the distributor cap do show signs of wear but they are all intact.
  • driving lesson ? 3 Jul 2013 (Forum)
The car was travelling down a straight road by a pub that was the only building for several hundred metres on either side.  The pub car-park was next to the pub with kerbs for the footpath leading into car-park.  The car turned to park on the footpath using the turnoff to the car-park but going too fast.  The near-side front wheel bounced high as it ran onto the kerb and the car turned off the footpath back onto the road.
  • Volkswagon Golf S 04 - Steering Wheel Won't Lock VW Golf S 2004 28 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Hi guys   recently just had my ECU repaired due to a fried circuit board because some idiot i know decided not to put the jump leads on right when i let them use my car to jump start theirs. cost me about £575 in total for a full service aswell so not sure if thats cheap really for a repair on the ecu and a full service plus a fuel pump relay   Recently though my steering will not lock and it feels really light, like i can full lock the wheels with the engine not running and the key out of the ignition, today i had a problem getting my engine to start like the wheel had locked and you needed to nudge it to the left or right a little before turning the ignition on   i do not understand why this happened when the wheel was unlocked whats the problem does anyone know ?
