  • The 'new' 4 lane M1 29 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Where Lane 4 was empty, but Lane 3 occupied by the CLOG, whilst travelling in the inside lane, I had to cross 3 lanes in order to overtake. Bonkers! 2. Speed cameras. On a motorway??? Why??? 3. "No parking"? The overhead gantries had a lit-up sign that was a circle with a line through it - looked to me like a no-parking sign. I imagine that it was telling us that there was no speed limit, but.. 4. 2&3 looked to be a part of a variable speed limit activity.

  • Prosecution in a car park 18 Aug 2008 (Forum)
She was very surprised at this as she was not aware of having touched a car whilst backing out but on inspecting her own car found a small amount of paint and a rubber mark as it from a tyre. Presumeably there must either have been a witness or a camera to record this, otherwise how do we know that it was not another car scraping along her vehicle that left the paint? Assuming she is at fault here, I would have expected that she be asked for her insurance details in order for a repair to be carried out.

  • The Hi-Vis tunics should have been a clue!.... 26 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Sitting at an indicated 70mph (so satnav says that's about 67mph actual) and passed a layby just south of Kilmarnock with an unmarked silver 5 series sitting minding everyone elses business - or more to the point the two traffic officers sitting in it wearing hi-vis tunics were clearly minding everyone else's speed. Mile or so later, not long before limit drops to 50mph with average speed cameras, a sporty version of a C2 (VTR or something, I guess), passed me at what had to be at least 85mph. Few hundred yards behind him, the silver BMW. By the next layby, the BMW was shepherding him in.

  • Enjoyable motoring still possible! 24 Jun 2008 (Forum)
After reading PUs thread on his bike trip to the Continent and how much he enjoyed it I can say that after 1100 miles in the last week motoring bliss is still alive and kicking in the UK. An area with no speed cameras, no speed bumps, no potholes, excellent road surfaces with good tarmac, light traffic, the ability to drive how you wish and actually enjoy it, locals who assist you in passing and are appreciative when you do a similar deed, well signposted limits with 300m countdown markers when speed is reducing from NSL to 40 or 30, 20 limits outside school which only come into force at appropriate times.
