Car is 1997 Honda CR-V. All contributions greatly appreciated as I need to re-register my UK reg car in Spain and don't want to spend any money unnecessarily. -
Preparing For a Continental Trip 27 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Got the fluorescent jackets, bulb kit, fire extinguisher, documentation and warning triangle tucked away in the Hyundai coupe ready for my trip to Spain and France. What are the latest thoughts about headlights? I've set them to the lowest position in years past and sometimes used duck tape (after polishing the polycarbonate lens to limit the amount of stiction). -
Why there is no British automotive manufacturer? 1 Apr 2008 (Forum)
I think we can't just argue over cost perspective citing India/China because similar economy countries like Germany, USA, Czech Rep, Spain, France, Japan etc. can all successfully run their own automotive business. So, what's been fundamentally wrong in Britain? -
Auction Report from Sevilla 19 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Thanks HJ for above. Am currently in the process of changing cars here in Spain. EurotaxGlass's suggest a dealers' margin of 25-30%, and my experience seems to bear this out. This must be set against a local market where registrations grew 17% last year (it's all the expats - is there anybody left in UK?). -
room with a view 8 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Just spent a few days in Spain, much of it being driven in roomy 20 year old Peugeot 206 (still going strong), and one thing that struck me was the fabulous all round vision - thanks to deep windows. Today's designs involve ever higher "waistlines" and, particularly for young passengers, less chance to see out. -
Tyre price comparisons 9 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I have just had two tyres replaced on the my Skoda Fabia tdi. I am just interested in knowing what would be a typical UK price for this (I live in Spain) Two Michelin Energy 185.60 R14 H, balancing, 2 valves, balancing, wheel alignment (needed!) total cost, inc VAT 188.62 Euros or about 130 quid. Oh - natioal chain similar to Kwik Fit, labour rate 30.02 euros per hour - about £20.75 and they checked the brake pads & discs! -
Any - Driving in Spain - recent experience 7 Aug 2014 (Forum)
Hi, just back from Northern Spain and thought I'd share some of the experience. On some points I'd be interested in any ex-pat views. First the roads are excellent and quiet with even remote mountain roads better than our local a-road UK surface. -
Ford Kuga - Ford Kuga mk2 2.0 smoke and burning smell 10 Apr 2019 (Forum)
Been told smells like clutch burning (although clutch response didn't appear to be any different from any other time I've driven it, gear change smooth and biting point still quite low) or possibly the dpf regenerating and just law of s0d that I was stationary and the heat increase caused the smoke which had I been driving would have blown by unnoticed Never had a dpf in a motor so asking for any suggestions please Off to Spain tomorrow (yup, bad timing as always) so gonna call dealer as still under warranty but would like to go prepared with some info as the dealer was a little dismissive of past issues we've reported with the car Thanks in advance and free Spain keyring for anyone who can correctly diagnose this issue from the basic description ive given lol -

Toyota Avensis Tourer "Comfort" (Spanish spec) - No more common sense - no more spare bulbs! 6 Sep 2012 (Forum)
I asked at a main dealer and was told they are not made or provided for specific models any more as legislation in Spain was recently changed and spare bulb kits no longer have to be carried in the car. (I'm not sure whether this only applies to post-2012 cars, or whether all drivers of all cars are now exempt.) A generic spare bulb kit for "Most" of the bulbs would set me back about 20 Euro, though cheaper kits are to be found on eBay. -
Focus TDCi - New set of alloys at 35K - road humps to blame? 17 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Three of the four have been replaced by the leasing company and the Ford main dealer told me this kind of damage is all too common, now that speed humps are so "popular" all over Spain, just like in the UK. I follow HJ's advice on negotiating road humps (and pretty much everything else!) and with a permanently full boot I am not one to charge about the place, road humps or not. Road accidents, especially amongst children, in urban areas have to fall, no question. -
Driving a Foreign Car in Britain 27 Mar 2005 (Forum)
can I change the direction using headlight stickers, as I used to do with my old Cavalier here in Spain? Sorry for all the questions but your help would be most appreciated. Thanks -
toyota verso 2.2 auto - gearbox oil change 10 Jul 2013 (Forum)
I am changing the oil on my Verso at 6500 miles prior a run down to Spain. The first service will be done in October. Is it prudent to change the Auto box fluid as well. I used to change my last Verso (Petrol) engine oil every 5-6ooo miles and the auto box oil every 30000 miles, and both were like new after 10 years. -
For Fusion 2002 Diesel 1.4 TD - Car part numbers 8 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Hi, I live in Spain and car parts are horrendously expensive here. I am trying to buy an alternator for my car from Ebay and am told it is for a 2003 model and I need to know if it will fit my 2002 model Fusion. The seller has come back with the part number - 2s6t-10300-cb 7oA - is there anywhere I can check online to find out if this part will be ok for my car? -
Ford Fiesta (2000 - 2002) - 01 1.8 O/S drive shaft bearing 29 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Can I repalce the bearing or do I have to replace the entire shaft?? I'm driving the van over to the south of Spain and this is very annoying as it's causing bad wheel wobble and vibration. Had it checked and it's defo the bearing. Forgot to mention, this van is a 1.8 TD. -
I have a question Volume 34 12 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I am in the market for a new hearing aid to replace the N.H. device issued F.O.C. in the UK. I now live permanently in Spain and I would be grateful for any advice based on backroomers' own experiences. I have been offered a digital programmable aid (by Widex - the Senso CX CIC) for the equivalent of £1245, including fitting, adjustments, and a five year guarantee. -
Any car - I need clearance without the need for a 4x4 14 Dec 2020 (Forum)
I live down a track and it’s in Spain so it’s never muddy and i don't need a 4x4 except for the clearance. I need some help here re a car that has some god clearance, everything here is rust free but costs about 2/3 times the price. -
Cheapest country in Europe for a new car 5 Nov 2017 (Forum)
I am not ruling out brand new, but why pay new prices when you can get a further 20-40% off on a year old car? I am also looking for a LHD as i live in Spain, where the dealers won't do you a deal & used car prices are huge for one who is used to the UK second hand car market. Cheers all. -
car hire insurance 26 Nov 2015 (Forum)
We am going to Spain again in a few weeks for a pre Christmas break. I intend to hire a car for a week. I usually leave it to others to sort out cars etc but this is the second occasion this year I have needed to hire abroad. -
serendipity via corona virus 7 Apr 2020 (Forum)
However since the virus struck there is hardly any. I wonder if the emails are coming from China or Italy or Spain and their activities have been curtailed due to illness. What a shame, dear me how very sad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What am I going to do for my penis extensions, meeting lovely Russian girls, having my fortune told etc etc.?
