• Any VAG PD : non-PD specific oil in a PD 6 May 2008 (Forum)
  If you ran a PD engine on regular oil( say 505.0 spec) instead of 505.1, what would be the outcome? I'm not suggesting just one oil change, but over 50K - 100K miles. What would wear, and what would be the repair / rebuild costs? NB.

  I've had my polo 1.4CL auto (1999) for two years and no problems - regular servicing/oil changes etc. This morning the engine spluttered while starting, coughed and died, and the oil warning lamp and buzzer went off. I tried again - same thing. I got it onto the flat and checked the oil, which was fine.

  Hi - I have a 1996 Peugeot 306 non-turbo diesel with low mileage and I'd like to treat it well... Is it worth adding an oil treatment when I change my oil (which i do every 6 months)? If so, which ones are good? It must be hard to prove, but I'm open to anecdotal evidence from you lot.... Ever seen the little oiled cogs on the counter at your local parts supplier?

  My engine oil was changed yesterday but its about 4mm above the max mark. It was 8mm above but I drained some out today though its still 4mm above. Does this matter? I've driven it a few miles and there don't appear to be any problems.

  The car was due a new clutch (or so we thought) and the garage warned us we'd probably need a new flywheel too. Both were fitted and made a 10% improvement but the basic problem remains. Gearbox oil? I'm getting them to check it but it should have been changed when they did the clutch, right?? They charged me for the oil anyway! Any other ideas or similar problems? Thanks

  This doesn't sit easily with me because I believe in frequent oil changes. There is no gearbox dipstick so I can't see whether the oil is a healthy colour, and the Haynes manual which shows a gearbox filler tube doesn't correlate with the car. I've searched in vain for level plugs, filler tubes and such like.

   the mileage today after 6 years is 130k - all components are original including car battery.  Its had an oil change between on average 7-8k using VW Quantum 504/507 spec, between 10k to 90k each oil change was at 5k interval (miles).  I had it Terraclened at 120k - made no difference - waste of money.

  Good afternoon Ford dealer (and HJ) says Powershift gerabox needs 3 year oil change at £250 Ford UK directly contradict this suggestion by saying; 'this gearbox is a sealed unit, meaning the gearbox oil inside the gearbox is expected to last the life time of the vehicle and isn’t changed during a service hence the phrase ‘sealed unit’.
