  When the temperature goes up beyond 100, steam starts hissing out of the radiator inlet pipe. This happens after about 20 minutes of being sat idle. - The coolant fan never comes on - The cabin heater is hot - I recently did a coolant flush and filled with new coolant - I've taken the hose in question off to check for a blockage and it looks ok - I've recently replaced the head gasket Any ideas/advice welcome!

  Tried to drain the coolant in my wife?s diesel 405 TD ?96 today. However, nothing will come out ? not even a drop! Coolant is clearly there in expansion chamber ? have opened bleed valve, left expansion chamber top off and even run engine to try and pump the old coolant out.

  Since a garage replaced the thermostat the engine loses coolant significantly though no sign of drips can be seen.  The reservoir float sinks to the low position and requires 3/4 pint to return to correct level. Before the replacement, virtually no coolant loss was ever experienced.

  I have recently noticed that the coolant in my expansion tank keeps filling up, even after I have extracted sufficient coolant to obtain the level between the min. and max. marks. Can any one offer any advice on what the problem might be please?

  Hi folks, GF has a Fiat Cinquecento sporting and it always seemed to be requiring coolant topping up. Today she phoned me to say that she smelled burning, pulled over and checked coolant and it was empty. I am now wondering, is it likely to be a simple leak, or could it be something more serious?

  Service has flagged up that coolant in my 2002 model PD Passat has deteriorated. -15°C protection rather than -25°C from new. Is a coolant change easy? I'm going to find a Haynes manual. Last time I did this, Renault 18, bleeding the air out was tedious. -- I wasna fu but just had plenty.

  I sprung a leak on my top rad hose the other day. Got a replacement from VW for £70, but forgot to buy the special VW G12+ coolant. Ive re-filled the system with water, as i need the car tomorrow. I wont be able to flush & refil with coolant for a couple of weeks. Will using just water for 2 weeks cause any problems? Or am i worrying over nothing?

  Does anyone know what colour the branded Fiat coolant is - I think its called Paraflu! The reason I ask is that I asked the local Fiat dealer to change the coolant on my wifes Punto last year and on checking it today using a hydrometer it appears to have the colour of pale urine and a specific gravity of just over 1.

  After driving on the motorway last weekend, I have noticed a small blue bead of coolant on the centre of my radiator. I wipe it off but it returns though not immediately and there has been no noticeable drop in coolant levels. I am thinking of putting something like 'stop that leak' into the radiator, just in case the situation deteriorates, but will this inhibit the effectiveness of the coolant (as well as discolour the coolant) or is this all a waste of time as I will need a new radiator eventually.

  The coolant warning is coming up on my 120d. Can I top it up with a little water or do I need some mega-expensive soopa doopa BMW stuff? I have RTFM but it isnt clear ! Thanks P

  Coolant loss on 2010 ford fiesta. Head gasket done, cambelt and water pump changed. If I drive to work and go at 70 when I stop, and then get back in it 30 mins later it won't start. Check coolant and below add line.

  I bought a 14 plate Vauxhall Insignia 1.8 petrol car in September of last year. Ever since then there has been a coolant issue/loss. I have recently had the thermostat and main pipe replaced so doubt it it that. I've checked the engine bay and can't see and coolant build up anywhere, can anyone suggest anywhere else to look?

  Looking at changing the coolant on my car, and it seems to be a bit of a minefield! The existing stuff is yellow and 'looks' healthy.  The service manual states: "The cooling system has been filled with a quality coolant that is a 50/50 mixture of water and ethylene glycol antifreeze." - isn't this normally blue or green?

  Hi I have got a BMW 316i which has done 65,000 miles. Just recently the coolant light has started to come on in the car followed by the oil lamp light. I have filled up the coolant which works for a few days but it is leaking and requires filling every few days. I have checked the oil level yet this seems ok??

  Otherwise can a diesel car standing for 2 years cause coolant to vanish? How many litres of coolant does my car take and what type of ready mixed coolant shall I buy? Apart from coolant what else shall I consider looking at for a diesel car standing for 2 years?

  I drained and flushed the system making sure heater was set to hot , and I also drained the engine block and flushed thoroughly. When I refilled the system with the red coolant, which I mixed 50/50 with the de-ionised water I was well happy. Any way next day I checked the level in the expansion bottle and to my horror the coolant was an orange/rusty colour..... Am a bit concerned , as In my previous Focus coolant was also a red colour and it stayed nice and red asnd clear.
