Ford Focus - Ford Focus 2015 1.5tdci Blown Head Gasket 27 Jan 2021 (Forum)
Can anyone recommended a genuine repair service in London/South east as fixing head gasket would work out cheaper for me in long run as still have 2 years left to pay on car. -
Electric Car (EV) Interior Heaters 1 Dec 2020 (Forum)
Some of these drivers would have been doing a journey which was well within the range of an EV. With a conventional combustion engine you could could have kept your engine running for the whole time (for heat), provided you had a reasonable amount of fuel in your tank. My question is how does the interior heater of an pure EV work (Not a hybrid)? Does it use the car batteries? -
Is there such a car? 25 Nov 2020 (Forum)
Being 6ft4 doesn’t help but it’s my wife’s old car as I bought a new estate last year for her and our two boys; so this is the cheap runaround... We’ve had it 5 years and it’s never been a problem and cheap to run also.... I only use it for the work commute that only 15 miles of 30/40mph zones and occasional stop start traffic... but I am in the car for an hour each morning and night so bring comfortable is a big thing.. -
What is the best car for me? 13 Oct 2020 (Forum)
Ideally I don't want another project, so something which is reliable and good on the motorway runs. I know any car could be good or bad and depends heavily on its service history and any future maintenance. Just want to know if there are any good contenders off the top of your heads. I like volvo as you get a lot of bang for you buck, but mostly older cars, 06/07 I'm finding, so a 13 year old diesel engine isn't ideal and diesel, which is fine, but I guess petrol is preferable. -
Any - Turbo or not 25 Aug 2020 (Forum)
However, the next vehicle, as mileage is now down to 5 - 7k per year, will more than likely be petrol. Journeys are made up of mainly local runs & in the summer trips to the van on the Welsh coast from Shropshire. l like to think l drive with a sense of consideration/sympathy to the vehicle & had pretty much made up my mind to keep it simple & go for a normally aspirated chain driven motor, as though they can have their problems l'm a little fed up with belt replacement; which always seems to be more & more expensive. -
BMW 3 Series Compact - BMW Owned from New to Scrap 11 Aug 2020 (Forum)
The real lesson when cars get old is perhaps in the song by Kenny Rogers, The Gambler - knowing when to hold 'em knowing when to fold 'em, knowing when to walk away and knowing when to run. Cars a bit of a gamble but so is the rest of life too! -
Fuel Efficient Estate 8 Jul 2020 (Forum)
As stated, my main objective is to make it as fuel efficient a journey as possible as I'm currently running a 1L Ecoboost Fiesta which is costing me around £80-£100 a week on fuel depending on what other journeys happen during the week. In the perfect world I would also enjoy something that is still slightly fun to drive but I realise this will have an effect on the fuel economy. -
Any - V power and Shell Go+ reward rate 17 Jan 2020 (Forum)
I have been running my (new to me) 1.4 Golf on VPower to give it a good clean out. Wow it is extremely expensive these days. So far I have had one reward of £1.40. The official reward rate is £3 for every 300 litres, i.e. a penny a litre, so I wonder how HJ gets the £12 a month he has been quoting recently. -
Ford Focus 64 plate 1.6 TDCI - Engine temperature fluctuating. Thermostat? 11 Dec 2019 (Forum)
The engine seems to take a while to heat up, but when it does it only reaches about 75 degrees on the temperature gauge before it then drops back down again and hovers around 65. The 'normal' running temperature is 80. This temperature drop happens even whilst I'm doing consistent motorway speeds. If I come to a stop the needle will slowly drop down to the bottom of the gauge and only rise when I pick up speed, at which point the same fluctuation will happen again. -
Mazda 3 - Thermostat choices and cooling fan 3 Dec 2019 (Forum)
Hi everyone, I've just recently got a 2006 Mazda 3 , 2.0 sport, and wondered if anyone could answer a few questions for me. The coolant temp is only running at an average of 56°c, so I know I have to change the thermostat which I plan on doing at the weekend. I can't seem to find much info on this car though despite there being so many out there. -
Honda Civic - Acceleration issue 26 Nov 2019 (Forum)
Hello, I have a problem with my 2007 Civic 1.4 Petrol. Engine runs perfect on idle position and there is no fault codes. The issue comes when I am driving and I change gears. After I release the clutch pedal and the gear is engaged, acceleration is intermittent and comes "in waves" for the first 2 seconds. -
What if I can't have a home charging point? 26 Nov 2019 (Forum)
I'm not going to start spending money on a solicitors bill to amend all the leases for our house, just so I can occasionally charge a car. So, am I now only able to look at 'self charging' EVs, or can I run a plug-in hybrid purely by using the petrol motor to recharge on longer journeys? I love the idea of less polution, but am struggling with the real world application, so suggestions / educational comments are welcome. -
Mondeo 2009 20ltr tdci Mk4 - Tapping noise 31 Aug 2019 (Forum)
I had it serviced and cambelt replaced and around 1k miles after it gained a rattle sounds like hydrolic tappets so my garage replaced them and it still has the same problem the engine runs fine no loss of power. When the engine is cold the tapping noise is very faint but once up to temp it's loud. It does come and go sometimes too. Small ends have been ruled out has when you rev it the noise goes. -
Alhambra 2ltr TD Ecomotive 2013 - Seat Turbo Failure 20 Aug 2019 (Forum)
This was essentially sorting out the emissions cheat software. 8 weeks later the turbo failed and we lost all power - the engine was running but the car was barely moving. SEAT have refused to help in anyway with this issue. They’re stating the emissions fix would t affect the turbo, so it isn’t covered by their ‘trust building measure’ in relations to emissions fix. -
Citroen C1 - private seller vs franchise: milliage + cost 14 Aug 2019 (Forum)
On auto trader the highest mileage on these sorts of cars are around 130,000 so I'm thinking it better to choose the lower mileage one but want some advice. Will I be saving money in the long run still choosing a cheaper car. -

2013 Mazda 6 Diesel - Fuel not Registering/Fuel Line Issues 4 Mar 2019 (Forum)
I didn't think too much of this as I presumed it was too small an amount to register on the float/sender. After about 3 miles the car started running jerkily as if there was a fuel line issue. I parked up and left it. I've just added another 5 litres of diesel to make sure (so about 12 litres in total versus 3 miles of driving) and the fuel readout is still on zero and no fuel is getting through (engine eventually cut out after driving about 100 yards tonight.) -
Breakdown cover for punctures 14 Feb 2019 (Forum)
I don’t have breakdown cover anymore (I had one year as a Honda approved used car) as I thought the car runs with perfect reliability so was ready to chance it. A mate of mine has just posted on Facebook about getting a nail in his tyre on the M25 and as he has a modern Merc with rubber band wheels he had to be recovered off the M25 and then called what turned out to be a good mobile tyre fitter to fit a new tyre. -
Hyundai ix35 - ix35 Stick or twist? 26 Nov 2018 (Forum)
Short list is 2016 Auris Hybrid tourer (£16-17k at a Toyota franchised dealer and I'm not averse to an auto) or a 2012-2016 petrol Civic 1.8 (a fair bit less and I can get serviced locally). New Mazda 3 is out as will only take 50kg on roof. Any suggestions - do I just run the ix35 into the ground or am I asking for DPF/DMF trouble here in the next few years? Thanks in advance
