  Writing in todays motoring section Alex Robbins says there is no empirical evidence to show that Supermarket fuel is inferior. But a local company that manufactures Spectroscopy equipment have told me that when used to check fuels, the supermarket diesel was found to have less additives. And therefore inferior.

  Asda is middle of the road diesel, but he said any modern diesel car should stay away from supermarket fuels apart from tesco and use either BP ultimate or Shell v power or equivalent as they need the extra dose. Was a very interesting conversation, I wont bore you all with the rest but perhaps one step closer in the debate.

  Had a look in every supermarket/hypermarket for VW 505.01 spec diesel oil for the past 3 weeks. No luck. Own brand,Shell and Total dominated the shelves. At least the 'gasoil' was cheaper at between 0.99 and 1.15 Euros per litre.
