  • Pierburg 2E2 help needed 24 May 2005 (Forum)
On longish drives at a constant speed of about 80mph the car will start to misfire, getting worse until I stop and let it magically fix it?s self, if this happens it really eats fuel. 3. engine tends to idle to fast sometimes I know some people will say bin the pierburg and get a weber but they are very hard to get hold of at the minute due to production problems, so if anyone has a second hand 32/34 DMTL let me know.
  • Lord Sir Alex Trotman 5 May 2005 (Forum)
What is even less well known is that the had a personal hand in the ill-fated buyout attempt of British Leyland in the late 70's. (Ford eventually got cold feet and pulled out.) What is poigniant for me personally is I met Alex Trotman at Ford World Headquaters in Dearbourn Michigan in 1996 albeit briefly. A genuine car guy and not a bean counter IMO and will be sadly missed by his family, ex colleagues and friends.
  • Ipod/Similar needed for car - advice plz 15 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Hi, I am due to start a new job soon and am looking to buy a device which will play all my MP3's that will work with my company car. Being a demonstrator, we are not allowed to put anything aftermarket in them - i.e. handsfree kits, aftermarket radios etc.. so it puts me in a dilema A friend of mine has an IPOD with something called an ITRIP - which plugs into the IPOD.
  • Another waterworks problem - Maestro TD 4 Apr 2005 (Forum)
In the last few months I?ve noticed that the coolant hoses on my wife?s Maestro TD are still pressurised after standing overnight. Opening the rad cap and the air blows out. I replaced the radiator cap with no improvement. The engine is running perfectly including the heater.
  • Carte blanche 21 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I think mid-size is preferable to mini (and likely to be better value) and my happy experience with the family Mazda makes me look favourably upon 323's and similar. I like my old Audi, too, but I cheerfully admit to bias, which is why I'm asking you lot... What say you all?
  • Lazy or crazy? 1 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I have since discovered that I have a client, also a publishing director, who lives in the apartment block right next to where he works. Thinking back to my track-running days at school, I?d guess it?s a distance of between 100-200 metres and he drives it everyday also in a large Mercedes. In addition, he has to negotiate a tricksy underground carpark at either end of his journey. Personally, I think this wonderful disregard for the environment, his health and his car should be applauded.
  • Citroen C4 - is this a good deal? 27 Feb 2005 (Forum)
List price for all of this was £17,870 (scary for a Citroen!). I've been offered £2000 for my 156k VW Passat 1.9TDi 'S', which is a 1997 model on a 'R' plate. Incentives include £1600 cashback from Citroen, and the dealer has offered to throw in metallic paint for free, along with another £300 off for good measure.
  • Dangerous Roads 22 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Am just paying a flying visit for first time in 3 months, and it will be a whileyet before I am back on a regular basis. Radio 4's File On 4, at 2000 tonight (Tue 22nd) is investigating dangerous roads. Dangerous as in design. Things such as accidents being caused by water pooling on motorways, or the road surface melting when vehicles skid.
  • Childhood dream cars 13 Feb 2005 (Forum)
I guess most my favs were fairly mundane, and I had many dinky replica's of my favs. Many, thinking about it, (I grew up in the 70's) were Fords (Consul,Zephyre) I was mad about Magnums Ferrari ?308 I think that still is in my present top 5.

  • 1999 Mondeo electric lock problem 8 Jan 2005 (Forum)
The only way to unlock the doors is by reaching across to the front passenger lock and pulling that handle, which opens all the locks, except for the rear driver's side door mentioned above. Could this be caused by a faulty regulator(s), and if so, on which door? Biggest problem right now is that without being able to open the passenger door it'll be rather difficult to remove the door panel to get to anything. Thanks for your help.
  • Automatic headlamps bowl me a googly 23 Dec 2004 (Forum)
A few yards past the hump is a turning on the left where a white Vectra was apparently waiting for me to pass by. As I bounced up the hump I was surprised to see the side of the Vectra illuminated as the C8's headlamps chose that inopportune moment to switch on. The Vectra's evidently driver took it to mean that he was being flashed out of the turning and launched his car in front of mine. Fortunately I had just enough room to slow and miss him.

  • Dark Nights 29 Sep 2004 (Forum)
By the time I reached my exit at Oxford I had counted over 90 , in 4 groups - no lights / parking lights only/ foglights (despite perfect visibility ) / broken lights ( including a van with no rear lights at all ,inc brake lights ). I have driven in other countries and it\'s only in the UK that I have experienced people believing they can show whatever lights they feel like - why is this?

  • Mondeo II- 2 basic questions. 5 Aug 2004 (Forum)
I just want to know how to access it now not to fix a problem. 2.There is a a 7inch slightly bent rod with a hook on one end that resides on a little purpose built shelf in the boot just by the O/S rear light. I cannot find any reference to its purpose. 3. I am considering updating the headlamp bulbs. Is it a case of just prising off the three buttons that hold the cover over the grill access screws?
  • Red Barchetta 3 Aug 2004 (Forum)
While searching for the lyrics to the song I found the article from Track and Road in 1973 by Richard S Foster (A nice morning drive) that was the inspiration for the song. Read in retrospect it was well ahead of its time! Well worth a read. • SpaceWagon Air Mass Meter 30 Jun 2004 (Forum)
I bought an (70K miles ex fleet part s/h) 2000W 2.4GDI SE SpaceWagon in April 2003. In July 2003 the idling became increasingly erratic.Ultimately the car was undriveable due to frequent stalling. The problem was traced to the inlet manifold being blocked with deposits - when cleaned up the problem went away for two months then recurred.
  • Bent alloy wheel 13 Jun 2004 (Forum)
(There was no other indication that the bearing might be on it's way out). However, while spinning the wheels while it was up on the ramps we noticed that the n/s front tyre had heavy wear on the inner side of the tread, and on closer inspection the inside of the rim is a little deformed. We have moved it to the back to see if the noise changes/disappears. However, are there companies that are able to correct non-round wheels, and is it likely to be a success, or would I do better to look for a replacement wheel?
