  • Vw polo 1.2 2003 and Corrolla 1.4VVT1 2004 - Help needed please Oil selection 10 May 2011 (Forum)
Hi all I am confused I need to change the oil in My Gransons Polo and I am being given different info as to which I should use. I will change it one a year and the mileage will be less than 10000. Can I use the more reasonably priced stuff or do I have to go fully synthetic.
  • Alfa Romeo 156 (1998 - 2005) - Oil leak after fast fit change. 29 Aug 2007 (Forum)
I took my Alfa 156 (1.8 TS) for an oil change about a month ago at a well-known fast-fit outlet. Since then I have to return twice for them to stop a very slight leak. The last time, a fortnight ago, appeared to have been successful, but this weekend I found spots of oil on the garage floor.
  • VW Touran 1.4 TSI 2008 (ANA) - 7speed - dsg oil change 23 Aug 2015 (Forum)
Ive picked up a "low milage" (60,000km-5k) Touran and am about to service it BUT as slkfanboy mentioned in this post (http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=104489) There are two types DSG7 wet clutch and dry clutch. Dry clutches do not need a change and wet clutches. The manual is Japanese to me literally as i live in Japan ;o)  and the dealer is as much use as a chocolate tea pot.  Does any1 know how to tell if the DSG require a oil change or not?
  • Am I neglecting my car? 26 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Today is my car's annual £25 oil and filter change. Other than this I never EVER do any other maintenace on my car. I only cover around 6k miles a year. I see garages offering "full" services for anything around £60-£100 but this seems to me little more than the oil and filter change plus a brake/tyre check and anti-freeze drain/refill.
  • Mazda MX6 2.5l V6 1995 - Ford Formula F 5w30 oil ok for Mazda Mx-6 2.5l V6? 9 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Original oil for this car was API SG in either 5W30 or 10W30. It's increasingly difficult to avoid 'upgrading' to fully synthetic oils, so last oil change I chose Castrol Magnatec 5w30. Now Castrol are recommending the even more expensive Castrol Edge 5w30 and the usual consensus (forum recommended) oil is Mobil 1 (I imagine ESP).

  • Ford Mondeo IV (2007 - ) - 2.0 TDCi -- Oil Service message. 22 May 2013 (Forum)
The fix is an oil & filter change and an ECU update, they say. The service manager says it's an oversensitive sensor relating to the DPF, which reports the oil has become contaminated and is putting the DPF at risk.
  • 2003 Skoda 1.9TDi Major oil leak 5 Mar 2007 (Forum)
have filled full of oil again, and positioned over pit, and will go and burrow when I finished this. Undertray looks a pig, and I am working on my own. Any ideas (leak is really really major). I thought oil filter slackening itself off (seen once by local garage after H.....d oil change), failed filter casing, .
  • Is it normal to pay high prices for an oil change at a main dealer? 15 Mar 2017 (Ask HJ)
I was charged £52.80 for four litres of oil by a Suzuki dealer as part of the first year service of my Vitara. This seems excessive to me, bearing in...

  • Magnets for oil filters 18 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Has anyone tried fitting these magnets onto oil filters and then cut the can open at an oil change and seen any startling benefits? I mean these plastic coated high intensity magnets that wrap round the oil filter can and are claimed to trap all the ferrous swarf, rather like the magnetic drain plug used to do in a Mini.
  • VW Polo - oil & filter 27 Feb 2007 (Forum)
A neighbour has just bought a 2001 Y reg 1.0 litre polo and I offered to do an oil & filter change as they need to drive it away tomorrow AM and the oil is in a poor state. Can anyone confirm that the oil filter is located in the N/S wing and if the sump plug is a straightforward socket job or a hex and if so what size?

  • To Slick 50 or not to Slick 50!? 12 Mar 2004 (Forum)
I'm just about to service my 2002 Vectra which I got around a month ago. It has 37K on the clock and my question is this. Is it advantageous to add Slick 50 oil treatment when I fill up with Synthetic oil or will the oil give just as good protection? Also, I'll be changing the cam-belt/rollers and tensioner soon and I've heard to change the water pump as well as a precaution.
  • lack of power in citroen bx diesel 30 Dec 2002 (Forum)
On the flat it moves along ok with a maximum speed of 55-60mph, but when I hit even small hills it struggles at 35-40mph. I've just changed the air and oil filter and the oil, and it's just had a new cam belt, but the problem still exists before and after these changes. Fuel consumption is fine, there's no loss of oil and it starts ok.
