Hyundai i30 GDI Turbo petrol - Petrol particulate filters 25 Jun 2023 (Forum)
I appreciate that the technology is still quite new but can anyone advise if there are likely to similar issues to DPFs in terms of the impact of failed regenerations as I intend t keep the car for at least 7 years? I certainly wasn’t expecting a new petrol engine to have particulate filter issues especially for a car that’s just 7 months old with only3k miles. -
Dacia / Duster - SUV recommendations 29 Jun 2020 (Forum)
Due to our low mileage (currently) I’m concerned after being bitten badly with a Peugeot engined Fiesta TDCi’s injectors,ERG and DPF. Are the Dacia diesels suitable for potential longer term 5-10m mileage or should I head towards petrol? Any other feedback on the Duster’s which seem incredible value? We’re not expecting the refinement of a Qashqui obviously! -
Peugeot 307 - Twist or stick? 9 Jul 2012 (Forum)
I would also look to get the timing belt and probably water pump replaced while the system was drained. In addition, I’m aware that this car has a DPF which relies on chemicals to regenerate which will need attention at some point. I have around £10k for a replacement and would consider a convertible as the kids are now old enough to climb in and out of a 2 door car but then I keep thinking, the 307 is paid for, costs £30 per year VED, £250 to insure and returns 55 mpg (brim to brim). -
Any - Looking for my next car £5-6K budget 17 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Before I started doing my research I was dead set on a Diesel due to my higher than average annual mileage, but within my budget it sounds like I may be better with a medium sized petrol due to the potentially high maintainance bills related to '05 on diesel cars with DPF etc. That said, I've heard good things about VAG 1.9 PD engines but I'm not really after a big car. Would prefer a chain cam for reliability. Any suggestions? I like the look of the 1.6 8v SEAT Leon mark 2 (which I gather is belt cam). -
New car - old car? £7,000 down the drain? 29 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Last night the gears became difficult to select and from the feel of it - it`s the linkage - not the box. But it crossed my mind - move it on or not? The problem is that a new DPF diesel can`t do that exceptional stop start work and we have been warned off even contemplating it by a Fiat dealer. That leaves a small petrol motor - but the constant cold running - of typically a few hundred yards - half an hour parked - means almost double the fuel used. -
Skoda Yeti - My Yeti(s) 25 Mar 2018 (Forum)
The TDi Karoq I drove was £31k!! I'm mindful of the potential for costly failures (clutch / flywheel, DPF, EGR, Turbo etc), as the car ages, but hope to see >100k miles before anything big fails. I purchased the full version of the VAG DPF app and understand my DPF is 40% filled with oil ash. I extended the Skoda breakdown cover, as it seemed good value at £90 / year, but other than that am "flying solo" with regards to warranty cover. -
Zafira 1.9CDTI SRi - cutting out while driving! HELP 14 Sep 2021 (Forum)
I have had a few things done to the car to test to see if it would fix it, Fuel filter changed - was realllllllly dirty!! (obv never been changed) Throttle body cleaned EGR cleaned DPF checked Fuse box cleaned and checked - no visible dodgy wires or blown fuses Oil filter change and new oil Injectors tested - all working but not at their best New cam belt (this had also never been changed!!) -
59 Ibiza TDI 1.6 - To keep or not? 10 Jun 2021 (Forum)
I had the diagnostic done yesterday and they want 500 big ones to fix, wiring has corroded to the turbo sensor and one of the dpf soot level sensors is faulty. The guy in the garage said I got lucky as it could have been the turbo itself due to its age and mikes (130k). Bearing in mind the car is 11.5 years old and has done 130k, also is overdue on timing belt replacement (every 4 years on this model), so another 500-600 Inc water pump etc. -
Nissan Qashqai - Qashqai, loss of power, alarm going off etc 29 Mar 2020 (Forum)
Everything I suggest like fuel pressure ECU etc they just dismiss, yet can give me no idea at all as to what is wrong - not even suggest when asked. They did try banging on about the DPF (told them no at the time) and low and behold it was not that. Called into local garage on the way home and they plugged it in and flagged it two error codes, but Nissan aren’t really taking any notice of that. -
Mazda 5 - Mazda 5 - 2008 - D I E S E L ! losing power 23 Oct 2019 (Forum)
Hi guys, I am all to aware about the bad reputation these cars have with DPF's, injector washers and so on but try to keep everything at bay myself. I am not a mechanic by trade but am very hands on and not afraid to get stuck in. I had planned on timing belt/drive belts etc this weekend for said vehicle but something happened yesterday. -
No idea - Large load space for dog cage and other gear 14 Sep 2019 (Forum)
We don't need the 7 seats we have in the Alhambra, but it does need room for 4 adults in relative comfort. It must be petrol as we do lots of short runs (I've screwed up the DPF and Cat on our diesel Alhambra). Fuel economy is relatively unimportant. I value reliability far higher than looks, and with the exception of e-windows in the front I am not fussed about any gadgets. -
Ford B-MAX - 1.0 Ecoboost B-Max as a second car - thoughts? 16 Dec 2017 (Forum)
On the surface this seems to tick a lot of boxes: - A fairly economical engine, that has performance when needed - No DPF, Powershift auto etc. to worry about - The taller body and sliding doors are better for tall people - Cheap VED - Decent reviews However, it has been on his forecourt for 6 months, after he took it in part-ex. -
Opinions required 23 May 2016 (Forum)
I then got a 13 plate Toyota Yaris, with 8k on the clock, 2 years on and an extra 40k on the clock and that is having issues with the DPF. So, firstly does PCP make any sense in my situation (have worked out the sums and that is fine, including the extra for additional mileage) as it would mean I could keep switching the car (as they seem to keep getting problems when they hit higher mileage) Secondly, what car would you recommend to me? -
Volkswagen Golf mk5 Estate - Options? 1 Sep 2015 (Forum)
The total bill is likely going to be more than double that and I could yet encounter further costs for example a new EGR valve or even DPF issues. I have requested from the garage I bought it from, written confirmation and receipts for the parts that they are claiming were new. -
Looking for a "hot-hatch" type car (second ever) 23 Mar 2013 (Forum)
My daily commute is 5 miles each way, so I think it probably makes anything Diesel out of the question because the DPF would be blocked in short order! Thanks for reading this far. I look forward to hearing your responses. -
2014 Vauxhall Astra GTC J 2.0L Diesel - MPG suddenly dropped by 30-40% 3 Oct 2019 (Forum)
Is this something to do with charging the alternator as the battery got so low when I was parked up or is this some sort of DPF cleaning?? Thing is it started when engine wasnt even up to temp. Gave me a bit of a scare as I have only owned the car 2 weeks and I have been used to the excellent MPG it usually provides! If anybody could clear this up thatd be seriously appreciated! -
Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0tdi 2010 - Rattling noise from engine area 10 Sep 2018 (Forum)
I previously had a zafira diesel where I ended up replacing the clutch and flywheel and it still persisted and ended up being to do with the egr/ dpf side of things, the rattling flywheel was as a result of a poorly running engine. The car starts and sounds to me like the engine is running poorly. I have recorded this but I am unsure how to upload. -
Focus Conundrum 2 Sep 2013 (Forum)
Am I right to disregard the diesels (my concern centres around the DPF due to short journeys)? Does anyone have any advice on the petrol Focuses? What kind of miles can you likely expect from a petrol? -
Ford Mondeo IV (2007 - ) - Mondeo IV 2.0TDCI - 20,000 mile report 3 Dec 2009 (Forum)
It's averaged a genuine, measured 42.5mpg (43.3 on the computer, which I have never reset), 70% driving in urban 30 / 40 limits and journeys under 10 miles, 30% motorway / A road trips. Considering the size & weight of car I think this is pretty good. No DPF problems, regenerations are now unobtrusive. I reported before about the "oil service" light issue: http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=65055&m=740483&v=e The indifferent: Slapdash assembly-line work under the bonnet, with intercooler hoses and clips, and vac pipes not fitted securely. -
Hyundai i40 tourer 1.7 active 115ps - Reliability/Economy/Maintenance 3 Jan 2018 (Forum)
Also note that the car requires C3 spec oil, that is Low SAPS/Low ash oil... vital to prevent problems with the DPF. Good news is... it has a timing chain, so as long as the oil changes are done regularly with decent oil as specified, and the engine isn't thrashed, no problems to be expected there! Tyres: Someone on another thread here was saying that the OE spec Hankook tyres were rubbish....
