Wrecks to Riches -DiscoveryTurbo Channel 9 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I would have thought much less than 70% as most people would run a mile if a car came up as a Cat-C/D write-off when they did an HPI check. Certainly I think if you later tried to part-ex at a main-dealer they would not touch it ? Would love to know peoples opinions/experiences after seeing this program ! -
Motorway behaviour... 31 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Its a commmute, I do it day in day out the same way every day. So why do people tailgate a big car, try to out run a fast car and ignore a middle of the road car ? -
A More Economical Engine. 29 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Greater Torque. 4. Smoother throttle for all loads. 5. Less maintenance costs. 6. Less emissions. 7. Cooler running. I also am convinced that much of the present gadgetry on modern engines would not be required and would remain obsolete. With the cost of fuel rising exponentially the further we get into this Century, I believe it is imperative that we run smaller cars with more efficient engines. -
Farewell Honda 12 Apr 2005 (Forum)
She did 146,000 miles for me from new - only time she ever missed a beat was when near the seaside and damp got into the alternator. I have driven her hard (never abused) and when she went she was running like the proverbial Swiss Watch. When the car tax rules changed etc I bought her from the leasing company at 78,000 for £5k and transferred her into my name. Carried on the main dealer service till 92k then just did my own after that. -
Ford Zetec 1.8 high idle 1 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Anyone got any ideas what the problem is because the local ford dealer hasn't manged to fix after several attempts? In fact I once got the car back running far worse than when they got it and Im getting very annoyed. Ive a Escort, about 9 years old that keeps sticking on a high idle speed of 1000-1300 or so when warm after about 20-30 minutes. It will often drop again after I blip the throttle of after the radiator fan cuts in. -
anyone heard about this??!! 2 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Call to ban 4X4 vehicles from school run is condemned ---------------------------------- ------------------------------------------- Manufacturers have reacted angrily to a MP\'s demand that four-wheel drive vehicles should be banned from the school run and trips to the supermarket. -
Omega MV6 hesitation on acceleration 5 Mar 2003 (Forum)
The patient is an ex-Police 3.0 ?P? reg Dec-96 manual Omega MV6 Saloon (white?). Had it since about 100k, now 202,500 miles nicely run in. Everything works (including the air-condition added) but we have a difficult to diagnose hesitation SOMETIMES under heavy acceleration. It manifests itself as an apparent misfire, intermittently (I mean only 10ths of seconds long), more usually at lower revs (below 3,000). -

LPG Conversions 19 Dec 2002 (Forum)
I save 55% on fuel costs, including the cost of driving to fill up with gas. I must be "pinchy"-See last weeks Motoring Telegraph. In my view the only cheap way of running on LPG is to buy a fairly old and cheap car,in good nick, otherwise with depreciation the cost of conversion may not be worth it. You also need to be doing at least 25000 miles per year to make it worthwhile. -
What to buy after armageddon ... 24 Sep 2025 (Forum)
Imagine climate change and armegddon came at the same time but incredibly there is still a late shop running which is 20 miles from your house. You may need to do this one a week.. to get to it you need to cross a small stream, drive through some woods and light mud, up a snowy hill and then finally across a small icy lake !! -
Bargain of the day 6 Jan 2025 (Forum)
SWMBO has reclaimed her car (Leo the Leaf) because it has isofix in the front passenger seat and mini swmbo likes to be beside mum whilst being chauffeured around, so I am now back to using the C class for commuting purposes and I’m really missing the Leaf for its simplicity and running costs and I’ve been looking at used examples where many a bargain lurks. Seems that the rear end has fallen out of the used EV market, particularly the Leaf so there are many stupidly cheap cars about. -
Merc W213 E Class - Terrifying Tyres 13 Dec 2024 (Forum)
The car has run flat 275/35 R19 continentals I always keep an eye on the tread depth, which was fine. But the car failed MOT because on outside edge of both front tyres (where base meets side wall) its worn down to the structural threads, I.e. absolutely ALL rubber gone.!!! -
2013 CDTi - £1500 to replace all 4 injectors on Vauxhall Astra 24 Oct 2024 (Forum)
The work has been done and I've paid so too late to change my mind now but I was just wondering if this seems a fair price. The price also included some diagnostics on the DPF and running a regen to check it was all working correctly, as the DPF was having issues due to faulty injectors. The garage I went to I've used plenty of times before and the mechanics always seem very professional and good at what they do so even though the quote seemed high I didn't want to risk going with someone I don't know. -
Vauxhall Meriva - Cylinder 4 misfire detected 12 Jul 2024 (Forum)
My engine has suddenly started running lumpy at tickover (particularly noticeable at about 1000 rpm). At higher revs the engine is obviously not happy either, and the car feels underpowered. The engine is petrol 1.6 litres DOHC (engine type Z16XEP). -
Citroen C3 Picasso - Engine fault- diagnostics report 1 Feb 2024 (Forum)
Error code- p0003 fuel flow regulator Error code - p0245 fixed geomentry turbo control Error code - p2426 control of the EGR exchanger bypass. Top chain which runs the cams seems as if the chain has slipped or has a mechanical fault resulting in the car not starting. These were the notes given to us from the mobile mechanic. Xan anyone shine any light on what this means and if it is fixable. -
boiler noise 23 Jan 2024 (Forum)
It's a Worcester Bosch Greenstar 25i combi, which we had installed about 5 years ago I think. Every now and again, perhaps 5 to 10 times a day, it makes a sort of motor running noise for about 10 seconds, fairly consistent, steady pitch, more of a grinding noise than a whirring. There's a definite start and stop; it sounds quite controlled. Can't match it up with any of these: https://idealheating.com/tips-and-advice/why-is-my-boiler-making-a-noise It's also making the 'quiet whirring' - pump appears to be working ok, at least when it's not making this short lived, occasional grinding noise. -
2003 1.6 Renault Scenic Idling Issue 7 Nov 2023 (Forum)
I was wondering if anyone had experienced or cured the problem? I do not believe the problem to be the coil packs as the car runs well (apart from idle) and no DTC's have been found. Spark plugs and the air filter have been changed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated Stephen -
ANY - Motorway Drive per Mile Charging 12 Aug 2023 (Forum)
https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/news/driving/2023-08/government-report-hints-at-road-charges-for-motorways/ I have a preview of this, since the motorways here (ironically called "Freeways") in Taiwan are charged. Accordingly, when my car was actually running, I didnt use them, other than for purely local journeys below the charging distance threshold. This has the effect of decreasing safety, and increasing wear and tear, and pollution. though most locals, being less skint and stingy, probably arent deterred. -
2011 Peugeot 107 2 door - Advice selling a car 11 Aug 2023 (Forum)
I have just inherited a 94 year old father in law so I have ordered a larger car with 4 doors which should be ready for collection at the beginning of September. I have booked it in for an MOT next week 2 months early. Insurance runs out 09/09 so I suppose I had better motivate my self to say goodbye before then. -
