It did 0-60 in 9.6 seconds, which might not sound amazing, but it’s mid-range tractability made it feel much quicker, while the mini-like handling and slick gearbox meant it was massively entertaining. Rewarding enough, in fact, to have its own motorsport series - the Metro GTi cup. In 1993, the GTi was made even more entertaining with the adoption of the multi-point fuel injection system that had been introduced for the 200-series, which shaved the 0-60 time to just 8.5 seconds - quicker than a Golf GTi. Like all Metros, the GTi was great until it rusted away, rear sills and wheelarches first, into oblivion. -
Meguiars club showcase finalists revealed 11 Oct 2018 (News)

'Built to last' to be theme of this year's NEC show 7 Jun 2018 (News)
This year sees the 60th anniversary of LEGO, enjoyed by children and adults all over the world. With vehicles such as the Mini Cooper, Ferrari F50 and Volkswagen Beetle immortalised in the famous plastic brick, and new vehicles being released in the future, it is hoped to have some of them on display. There are also plans to extend the theme into the various show feature areas including the Restoration Theatre, Discovery Live Stage, and Sporting Bears’ Dream Rides Garage. -
Gaydon Show to celebrate 70 years of Land Rover 6 Mar 2018 (News)
There will be a special parade through the arena for children to showcase their vintage and modern mini Land Rovers. The fiercely competitive Land Rover team quiz, hosted by motoring journalist and quiz master, Dave Barker, will include rounds on both days before a grand final on Sunday. Clubs, exhibitors and visitors are encouraged to enter in teams of two to test their knowledge. -

Classics rev up for Monte Carlo rally 25 Jan 2017 (News)
It will take place over eight days on open public roads with the cars and crews undertaking a series of 14 demanding test stages in the mountains of southern France. Included in the line-up will be an ex-BMC works Mini Cooper S which competed in the Monte Carlo Rally 50 years ago, finishing 6th overall in the hands of rally legend Paddy Hopkirk. It will be driven by Scottish rally enthusiasts Pat Haley and Mike Hyrons. -

Giving a nod to motorsport is a 1973 Alpine Renault, regularly used on the circuit, a 1986 Audi Quattro, 1963 Mini Cooper 997, and a 1988 Peugeot 205 GTI, complete with bodykit that pays homage to the legendary T16 Group B rally car. One of the finalists is Jonathan Smith's milk float. -

London Classic Car Show honours Adrian Newey 13 Dec 2014 (News)
Among the cars that meant so much to him when he was growing up were his father’s Riley RMF – ‘a beautiful thing’ – and a Mini Cooper S, which was the car he learned to drive in. Newey has his own collection of cars and will be bringing along his Jaguar SS100 that he bought ‘as a bag of bits’ and restored.

Meanwhile, to show the potential future of the motor industry and to give motorists a chance to get up close and personal with alternative-powered vehicles, the Regent Street Motor Show will feature new ‘pure electric’ models from the likes of Tesla, BMW and Renault, as well as the latest hybrid cars from other manufacturers. Among the marques being celebrated in Regent Street will be Mini and Morgan, while the event will also see celebrations marking half a century of the Ford Mustang and the 40th anniversary of the Porsche 911 Turbo. Visitors can also get to enjoy a Top Gear Experience display.

Jaguar will celebrate the legendary D-type on the largest display they ever had in Essen. Mini will, of course, remind us of the sensational win of the rally Monte Carlo 50 years ago. The centre stage in Hall Six will be hosting a special display of Maserati and Zagato sports cars. There will be a selection of Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Fiat, Lancia and Maserati fitted with the extraordinary and often eccentric bodywork by Zagato.
