  • BMW X3 - Faulty car, dealer ignoring me 1 May 2024 (Forum)
I asked the garage if this could be the reason why I am getting the vibration and they said it could be possible, and so they took the car in for the day to do diagnostics. They said that the rear n/s drive shaft needs replacing and that there is a problem with the rear diff. They called RAC who wanted to take the rear diff out for independent review. I called the dealer and told him that I wasn't expecting such a problem so soon after buying the car (but now we are almost at 3 months post sale) and he was not very helpful, just said that he's never had a problem with an RAC warranty.
  • Suzuki Jimny 2019 - Safety recalls 11 Jun 2022 (Forum)
When buying a used car from a main dealer, or other garage, how many people actually ask, or check themselves, if there are any o/s safety recalls? I have never thought of doing so before but will always in the future !
  • Volkswagen Golf - MK6 Golf - Purchasing Query 30 Oct 2021 (Forum)
There won't be a great deal of motorway driving.  I would like at a minimum the SE/Match Spec, as the S is very basic on a Mark 6 Golf. There is also the GT for both. This rules out the 1.2 Petrol TSI car.  As such, I am looking at the 1.4 Petrol TSI, 1.6 Diesel TDI, 2.0 Diesel TDI, and the reliability/cost of running or ownership versus the quality of the car/drive to my needs and circumstances.
  • 2011 Peugeot 207 1.4 8v - Possible failed cambelt? 18 Feb 2019 (Forum)
    - Coolant level slightly below minimum, and a bit of sludge in there (has always been very dirty in there and Google images show the same on other 207's), but has correct level of protection. - Took engine cover off but didn't reveal anything as too much oil in there, but what I did see all looked ok. Some further info about the engine...
  • Help choosing suv, budget £16k or £300/month 16 May 2018 (Forum)
Mazda guy did say the 2.5 was coming to the UK though but haven't read anything else about that and I'm sure it wouldn't be quick enough anyway as his current contract car expires in the summer.   In general he is quite open minded, although being in his late 50's definitely would prefer something a little 'plusher'.   I think that's everything. Thanks for taking the time to read my short essay question :) Any and all suggestions appreciated.
  • Help with replacement car choice 16 Feb 2017 (Forum)
Since then, we have had no really significantly bad weather and the 4wd has not really been necessary. My wife has now replaced her S-Max with a Kia Sorrento so we currently have two 4wd in the household. I am inclined to replace my Hyundai with something smaller and more fuel efficient for the daily grind. I fit winter tyres and steelies from November to March and would probably do this with any future non-4wd vehicle also.

  • Diesel drivers can rejoice first time since 2001 3 Sep 2015 (Forum)
has the same duty for both fuels meaning that diesel has typically been more expensive than gasoline, or petrol as it is more commonly known, according to Paul Whatters, a spokesman for the Automobile Association, the U.K.’s largest motoring organization. Europe produces more gasoline than it consumes while it relies on imports of diesel from countries such as the U.S., Russia and India to meet its demand requirements.
  • VW Golf Mark V - What legally can I do ? Home trader car. 11 Nov 2010 (Forum)
I arrived at 7:15pm, the final sale was signed at 7:50, and then another hour was spent filling out the V5's and the part exchange details, checking through my old car. and that all the bits were there. At 20:50, I got into the golf to find that there was no petrol it was on the last bar, and that the engine temperature was at more than 47 degrees which was odd because it hadn't been driven for at least the two hours I was there.

  • which drivers' car for commute? 25 Aug 2010 (Forum)
I've shortlisted the following: Focus / Mazda 3 1.6 diesel - have driven and liked both but my budget would involve highish mileages and concerns about diesel reliability As above but 2.0 petrol - not sure if I'd get near 40mpg on my town & country commute Previous gen Civic 2.0 Type S - fuel economy again? Current gen civic 1.8 petrol - not sure if in budget without mega miles? Accord 2.0 petrol, Mazda 6 1.8 or 2.0 petrol, Mondeo 1.8 or 2.0 petrol - fuel economy? Any opinions or thoughts on my conundrum?
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - DVLA Scrapped my car - HELP! 5 Feb 2010 (Forum)
They cannot explain why someone with a reasonably healthy bank account would hear that his car was going to be scrapped and it?s worth of £3000+ would be lost, not to mention the remaining balance owed to the finance company of £3000+ and simply let it happen. The finance company continue to damage my credit history, add charges and contact me politely (as I have been very apologetic to them) whilst DVLA have stopped sending contradictive emails, offering inept work ethic and are now simply saying nothing.
  • Sleigh Health and Safety Assessments 18 Dec 2009 (Forum)
With the snow falling, I thought it only right to draw your attention to the Health and Safety advice that N Pole enterprises have received. My S Claud please take note. 1. In relation to the Sleigh... "Jingle Bells, jingle bells Dashing through the snow In a one horse open sleigh O'er the fields we go Laughing all the way" A risk assessment must be submitted before an open sleigh is considered safe for members of the public to travel on.
  • Volkswagen Golf VI (2009 - ) - GTI test drive 2 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Sharpness of the brakes took a lot of getting used to. Ride quality far better than expected. Onto the M5's rutted and washboard effect inside lane, aim to potter along at 60 or so and see what sort of economy it was capable of. Surprising lack of wind noise, an acceptable amount of tyre rumble and engine/exhaust noise.

to accomplish the 1.2 X multiplication required to display Imperial Gallons and hence MPG correctly for the UK? .......Maybe some electronic expert(s) have already done this.......... or else might suggest how? Some people have suggested that this can/has been done with the GS body vehicle. I believe this was fully rectified in the later (RG body) Grand Voyagers from the 2001 Model Year.
  • New Zealand - Driving Experience 10 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Road works start at the point road works are needed, i.e. none of this coned off nonsense for 20 miles before (like you get in UK) 11. They sure like their 4x4's over here and they especially love their Subarus! Saw lots of Jap cars of model types I have never heard of before. Lots of old cars here. 12 Hired a car from Ace rentals for £350 for 3 weeks. It was a white 1.5 Corolla auto.
  • Winter tyres for hirecar to Austria end February? 4 Mar 2008 (Forum)
The law does not specify which type of tyre is 'appropriate' the general opinion is that any type of tyre except summer tyres is appropriate, including all-year tyres. Winter tyres must bear the mark M+S or display the snowflake on the side wall. Motorists, whose car is equipped with summer tyres while there is snow and ice, may not take the car on the road. Motorists in violation face fines of EURO 20.
  • Suggestions for a car please 14 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Volkswager Bora - completely off topic, but you can get a 2.3 V5 of 2.84Motion for far less than Golf equivalent, and i had one (a Tdi) a few years back as a company car and it was really rather good. Honda Prelude - should be fun, and has good safetly features to accompany it s performance, but the interior is SO low grade - looks worse than a Honda Civic from same period. MG ZS - could be tempted, but what are the risks in buying an MG / Rover, and were late ones subject to any dodgy cost cutting at manufacturer, I know that late Rover 75s were awful (I had one as a hire car and it felt stripped of all the quality that made the earlier ones appealing.
  • Prius Becomes Self-aware -Crashes Itself 13 Mar 2007 (Forum)
. - A hybrid car going somewhere between 30-60 mph blasted a hole into the side of a mini-mart store and gas station Tuesday afternoon, narrowly missing a clerk and sparking a fire. The accident occurred at the Hosmer Food Store and 76 gas station in the 8400 block of S. Hosmer. The driver, Art Robinson of DuPont, told KING 5 News that he just purchased the used 2005 Toyota Prius this morning only after he was absolutely sure it was safe to drive. Two different dealers gave it a clean bill of health - one even certified it.
  • Seat Leon FR TDi 170: 5,500mile report 3 Jan 2007 (Forum)
As promised a review of my Leon at 5,500 miles and 4 months For comparison, my previous car was a Toledo 110 TDi (old, non-PD lump) and my wife?s car is an Octavia 2.0 TDi with the 140bhp engine. Overall I?m very pleased with the car. It still looks distinctive in a way the Golf never will without being so boy-racer-ish it attracts the wrong kind of attention.
