Haunted cars, roads and spooky stories 24 Oct 2022 (Forum)
More specifically, it would be great to hear from people who have experienced: Haunted roads Haunted cars Haunted or spooky fuel stations Motoring superstitions (something people do before every trip or any kind of charms people keep in their car for luck) This is something a bit different from what is usually posted, I know, but we’re really interested to see if there are any spooky stories anyone on the forum can share. -
Merc C220d coupe '63 plate, 55,000 miles - In for service 1 month ago, at the garage still... 5 Aug 2022 (Forum)
On its return, the garage said it was the rocker box seal and they had to order it from Germany as there were none available in the UK. 3 weeks later, the part arrives and I'm told a fuel line was also leaking and they spotted this only now. Again, part ordered... one more week and they say it's ready. They road test it and ring me again to say the head gasket has now blown and it will cost £2000. -
Imperial measurements and pre-decimal money 8 Jun 2022 (Forum)
One of the delights of visiting the UK for me (along with meeting family and friends) is seeing imperial measurements being used - pints in pubs, miles on signs and phrases such as 'miles per gallon'. My cars in Thailand and Spain both display fuel economy as 'km per litre' - but I always convert to mpg. Ditto distances and speeds I mentally convert to Imperial. I have seen on British news media that Boris is going to allow the use of imperial measurements in shops and possibly re-introduce pounds shillings and pence. -
Hyundai Tucson - Power Failure Same Place 6 Apr 2022 (Forum)
I have had a strange loss of power in both though - only once each and exactly the same place, within a mile of home, returning from a long trip (over 100 miles). There was plenty of fuel in the tank. It happens on a busy B road with a 90 degree bend. On approaching the bend at about 20mph and lightly applying the brakes the car stalled and has to be restarted (park, ignition key turned). -
Aygo review 23 Mar 2022 (Forum)
But a lot of fun. At speed, nice and refined, quieter than our focus, easily held 70mph, absolutely fine .Fuel consumption was amazing, a mixture of town, A roads, motorway gave an indicated 60mpg without really trying! I was sorry to give it back and could easily live with this day to day Obviously it is a small car but as a runabout, it does seem to negate any argument to go electric, given its price, competence and running costs as a city car. -
Toyota Prius - To hybrid or not? 23 Nov 2021 (Forum)
I use a 56 1.2 Twinport Corsa at the moment...lots of acceleration and heavy breaking. As you can imagine my fuel costs have increased dramatically recently and are now £240/month. I'm getting far to old to be busting my bones fixing and maintaining it literally every weekend. It's becoming increasingly unreliable and has cost me a grand this year in lost wages. -
Peugeot Partner Combi - Peugeot partner 1.6hdi 2015 limp mode 6 May 2021 (Forum)
On Wednesday I did 700 miles and it didn't miss a beat, on Thursday I did 100 miles, filled up with diesel in Nuneaton and approximately 1 mile later went into limp mode, had a screen message saying "engine fault repair needed" Got recovered and took to garage with pug software but no faults are showing. Mechanic took a sample of fuel, all fine (unfortunately) and tried changing air flow sensor, didn't work so sent it back. Diesel additive tank needs filling with patfluid so he's doing that tomorrow but no idea if that will solve the issue. -

Daihatsu Skywing - Petrol "Too Good?" 31 Jan 2021 (Forum)
I doubt it was driven long enough after refill to foul plugs, but maybe long enough to empty the float chamber and fuel filter. Only two students turned up, giving me a (rather thin) excuse to cancel, otherwise I’d have trained and taxi’d. Unfair on them but saved me some embarrassment, time and money, -
Citroen C4 Grand Picasso - What to do about car broken down/now restarting? 17 Nov 2020 (Forum)
Hi all, I'd be really grateful for advice here Our 2016 Citroen Picasso Grande (just out of warrantee, obvs) had a problem on Saturday - we were in a car park, I started the engine to go home (it's a manual) and it cut out as if i'd stalled (though I hadn't) then wouldn't start, though it was turning over. I called the RAC who first thought it was a fuel problem, then the on-board computer, couldn't fix it so we had to get a tow truck. Finally, when the car was delivered onto our street on Saturday night, it started as normal and didnt' cut out, and it's done the same this morning (though I've not tried driving it anywhwere). -
EV musings 31 Aug 2020 (Forum)
Recently, I've been configuring cars as potential replacements for ny current PCP funded Octavia VRS, and have noted electric vehicles seem to be reasonable value at the moment, especially when considering reduction in fuel costs. The cars to have caught my eye are;.. Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Polestar 2. Mercedes EQC (left field, but some great deals at the moment) Each have a decent range - probably 230 real world for the Tesla and 275 for the Polestar. -
Dacia/LPG 1 Jun 2020 (Forum)
I was never a fan of the 0.9 tce, having tried it in a Clio. On the latest Sandero, they offer the 1.0 tce bi-fuel (petrol and lpg) engine. I'm not particularly interested in the lpg option (I only do about 9k pa) but I can't help thinking that a 100 hp engine in the Sandero could be a good thing. Recently I test-drove a Duster with the 1.0 tce 100 engine and it was, to my mind, ok if not sparkling. -

Feeling pretty hacked off.... car is now on 110k and has run perfect ti it was filled up on saturday, it seems the opening of the filler cap triggers a dose of fluid into the fuel.. -

Hyundai Tucson - Advice please first big purchase 5 Mar 2019 (Forum)
Ideally I'd like to keep it for as long as I can really so it needs to have a reliable engine and not too bad on fuel, but understand I won't get the greatest mpg from an suv. I've been using cargurus.co.uk to compare prices. We live in the North East. Can anyone recommend any good dealers we could try? -
Renault Scenic (2003 - 2009) - 2005 1.6VVT - Engine Stalls in Cold weather 2 Feb 2019 (Forum)
Help Renault Grand Scenic, 1600cc VVT Petrol, Feb 2005, Engine Stalls in cold weather I have had a few problems with this car, the latest problem even the dealer's technician can not find the cause. 6 months ago the 'de-phaser' -VVT regulator was make a rattling noise on start up and was diagnosed was faulty and changed. After the repair, I noticed a few problems which was reported to the dealer, the fuel consumption has gone up, lossing 3-4 miles per gallon, and that on cold start up stalling problems. The car starts up ok, I reverse out and drive away 20-40 metres I engage clutch and brake to slow or stop car and the engine cut-out it does this until engine warms. -
Audi A4 Avant or VW Golf - Which VAG estate? 25 Aug 2018 (Forum)
Which engine of the above for a lovely drive, ability to overtake and cope with hills but also good fuel economy? I’ll probably keep the car for many years if I love it. -
Honest John’s Motoring Agony Column 30-06-2018 Part 2 1 Jul 2018 (Forum)
This creates condensation in the cooler which mixes with the exhaust gas, creating a mucky paste which eventually gums the cooler and valve up. Unfortunately it's very little to do with the type of fuel being used. Even very hard-used, high mileage cars experience the problem - Volvo unfortunately dropped the ball with this design. This 180-page thread on the Volvo owner's forum tells the full story: https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php? -
Hyundai ix35 - Shall I keep my diesel car or replace with petrol? 15 Apr 2018 (Forum)
Assuming I get around 10K for my current car what family car (Saloon / Cross Over) would you suggest to get for that money? Comfort and reliability are a priority now rather than fuel efficiency. Thanks in advance -
Nissan Xtrail sport 2002 - Intermittent electrical fault 3 Mar 2018 (Forum)
The car did seem to run much better afterwards but within a day it was back to jerky movements as if fuel starvation and again stalling when slowing down. The garage have given up thinking of what it could be as it's so difficult to detect when it doesn't do it all the time and they've not come across it before.
