This is in my 60k Passat 130, I was wondering if VAG PD engines respond particularly well to premium fuels or if this an across the board benefit? -
Diesel engine life 7 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Hi Folks I remember many years back a friend telling me diesel engines ware normally good for double the amount of millage than a petrol engine - engines running at lower revs and diesel having a lubricant in the fuel were i seem to recall the main resons- . At that time before ecus he said around 100k-120 - pertrols and 200k for diesels. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - fuel system sensors 1 Oct 2007 (Forum)
They said they could not check anything as the fault had been cleared & the car was now running perfectly. The Ford service people suggested the fuel level had been low & that sensors had detected air in the system which cut out the fuel pump to protect it - either that or dirty diesel (The tank was actually one third full on refuelling.) Although the car now runs OK, I read an answer in your column (15th Sept) about a BWW diesel with intermittent fuel pump problems (stalling) which you suggested could have been due to bad earths on the fuel tank lifter pump or its relay. -
Renault Clio - Changing the Fuel Filter 5 Apr 2024 (Forum)
Most places are looking at £150 to change the filter, But looking on Youtube , Its quite a easy job but they don't really tell you how to bleed the Diesel if it airlocks. I have a 2017 1.5 Diesel engine. I would have thought that there would be more up to date Videos on Youtube, But its very limited with old Videos. I may bring the next service forward and have a Major service done and have a gap between the service and MOT. -
Honda CRV - Your thoughts on a test drive issue. 3 Mar 2020 (Forum)
At the weekend I test drove a honda CRV diesel on a 16 plate low mileage, it was low on fuel with the light on with 2 mile on the trip computer so we went to get diesel but before we could put fuel in the limp home mode symbol came on but I didn't know what it was so when I drive away I quickly found out and had no power so we went back the the carstore had a chat and walked away but I have now had a phone call saying on there diagnostic equipment it said low fuel pressure and that they have put a new battery on aswell ,when I asked why the new battery the sales guy wasn't to sure but he will see if he can get a report explaining things a little better. -
Vauxhall Corsa D (2006 - ) - 2007 1.7CDTI unrealistic fuel economy. 14 Jun 2012 (Forum)
Just bought an 07 plate corsa 1.7cdti and so far been unimpressed with fuel economy. Used to have old style 1.2 petrol corsa which gave a range of approx. 400 miles to a tank. New corsa, diesel!, is averaging 440 tops, way short of the 582 quoted in the press figures etc. -

Diesel drivers can rejoice first time since 2001 3 Sep 2015 (Forum)
Gasoline cost GBP1.17 ($1.82) a liter in the U.K. on Aug. 21 while diesel was GBP1.14, according to European Commission data. While most of European countries have a lower tax on diesel, the U.K. has the same duty for both fuels meaning that diesel has typically been more expensive than gasoline, or petrol as it is more commonly known, according to Paul Whatters, a spokesman for the Automobile Association, the U.K. -
Renault Espace 2.2 dci 2001 - Espace 2.2 dci lack of power uphil 24 Dec 2012 (Forum)
Going downhill, no problem. Car is otherwise great and gradually returns to full power. I have had all fuel pumps, and various sensors replaced over the last 5 years and EGR about 4k mls ago. I did clean EGR myself very recently and changed fuel filter plus have tried 'expensive' diesel and fuel additive. -

Incorrect refuelling 14 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Incorrect fuelling could be eliminated by changing the cross section design of the pump nozzle and fuel tank filler pipe. For petrol the nozzle and filler pipe could continue to be round, for diesel the filler pump nozzle and filler pipe should be square section. With the correct dimensions it's possible to ensure that only the petrol pump nozzle would fit the petrol filler and only the diesel nozzle would fit the diesel filler. -

Switching to Petrol from Diesel 1 May 2006 (Forum)
I'm just about to buy my next car and have almost decided that I'm going to ditch diesel after having driven only that in my five years with a licence, and would be interested in the views of nayone who's done the same and regretted/would recommend making this move. The main reason behind the decision is my beleif that generally diesels cost more to maintain and that the only benefit is the fuel economy. -
Diesel shelf life 23 Mar 2004 (Forum)
My father has stockpiled about 40 litres of diesel (he was expecting another fuel demo/shortage). This stuff has been in his garage for over a year now, so I told him that it would be advisable to get it used because it would 'go off'. He didn't believe me and asked one of his mates (not an engineer but a farmer) who told him he didn't think diesel deteriorated.
