The 99V 40k mile 3.0V6 SE auto bid to £13,150, the 2000X 29k mile 3.0V6 auto sold for £15,150. But bargain car had to be an 02 reg 3k mile 2.5 six-speed auto with the new electronic parking brake. Top bid for that car was £18,800. Oddballs of the day included an 86D 95k mile BMW 635 CSIA with a hunky set of alloys and very little fraying round the edges. That sold for £2,350. -

First production Triumph TR5 to go under the hammer 10 Apr 2018 (News)
Here was a 150bhp 2.5-litre straight-six that Triumph claimed made the TR5 the first production sports car with fuel injection, which helped it to a top speed of 125mph. Standard equipment included front disc brakes, all-independent suspension, rack-and-pinion steering and a four-speed gearbox. Only 2947 were built in total, of which only 1161 were in RHD for the British market. Around 350 TR5s are still thought to be UK registered today. -
Pedal car collection for sale 7 Mar 2018 (News)
Although they were ostensibly aimed at children, most of these pedal cars were just as well made as their full-size brethren with enamelled steel bodies, opening bonnets and boots, working brakes, steering and headlights, leather seats and adjustable pedals. Some even had miniature electric engines. But they didn’t come cheap and ownership was restricted to the privileged few. The Brightwells sale contains a wide cross section, although there are no Jaguars or Land Rovers amongst them as those in the JLR collection are staying put. -
4 in 10 drivers are running on dangerously uninflated tyres 12 Jan 2018 (News)
Kwik Fit added: “Checking tyre pressure is as important as checking tread depth, as tyres at the wrong pressure will compromise handling, grip and braking. As well as the significant safety issues, incorrectly inflated tyres will hit drivers in the pocket through excessive fuel consumption and increased tyre wear. It’s worth reflecting on the fact that a car’s tyres are the only thing to connect it with the road and we urge motorists to check their air pressure, tyre condition and tread depth every fortnight.” For more tyre, safety and economy advice, visit www.michelin.co.uk and www.kwik-fit.com -

The engine has been uprated by renowned North Yorkshire motorsport experts AMAC Engineering and now features a 649 camshaft, baffled sump and lightened flywheel to produce a free revving unit up to 7500rpm with 95bhp at the flywheel. An alloy sump guard protects from underneath along with aeroquip brake pipes, and the suspension has been upgraded with a negative camber front setup, all finished off with an iconic set of Minilite wheels, including the spare. The authentic look is completed with FIA specification wheelarches, and under the bonnet there’s a further light with switch and an upgraded oil cooler and radiator. -
Porsches lead the way at Bonhams Goodwood sale 24 May 2017 (News)
All superfluous items were removed, including rear seats, armrests and even the clock in a bid to shed weight. Porsche managed to lose 100kg from the car, improving the handling, acceleration and braking of an already impressive car. Originally sold in Belfast, the car took part in several Irish rallies, including the Donegal Rally. Its sporting career continued after it moved to the UK in 1974, a year during which it took part in six rallies. -
Classic Mini ‘reborn’ for modern day driving 6 Apr 2017 (News)
Under the bonnet, the original A-series 1275cc engine will be rebuilt with 50% more power and mated to a reconditioned four-speed gearbox. Ride improvements come from upgraded suspension and brakes. Company founder David Brown said the new model offered modern comfort and luxury while remaining true to the original. -

Ford and Fiat miss out on top Euro NCAP safety ratings 3 Mar 2017 (News)
In the full-width frontal crash test, the Fiat showed poor protection of both the driver and the rear passenger seat. Like the Ka+, it also lacks autonomous braking technology, already offered on several models in the same class. “The 500 is an old car by now and the small improvements that Fiat has made on the facelift don’t hide that," Euro NCAP’s Secretary General, Michiel van Ratingen said. -
Three Peugeot 205GTIs head to auction 22 Nov 2016 (News)
It is estimated at £5000 to £7000. Following an engine-out inspection, the car has had a new water pump, cambelt kit, head gasket, brake lines, radiator and wheel bearings, with suspension components removed, cleaned and painted where necessary. It has also benefited from a glass-out respray in the original black gloss while the inside has been retrimmed where required, but still maintains the 1980s cloth interior. -
Rare Porsche 911 goes from shed to show-stopper 1 Nov 2016 (News)
Once they got into it, it proved a very smart buy because other than two new front wings and basic perishable items, the rest of the car was re-comissioned using existing components that were repaired or renovated. The suspension, brakes, differential and electrics were all rebuilt and the original interior cleaned up, re-stitched and restored. The fully rebuilt engine and gearbox were reunited with the car having been balanced and tuned by Porsche engine builders Tech 9 Motorsport. Just before the car is offered at auction, the owner is hoping to reunite the Porsche with its original owner. -
A Grand Monday: Renault 11 Broadway 5 Sep 2016 (News)
After such a lengthy lay-up, though, we’d expect to find it on new rubber, and with fresh fluids and new brake discs and pads, most of which will no doubt have been needed for the MoT. So, check it carefully if you do go to view. At £795, it’s probably all the money for one of these. Indeed, you could probably fly to New York and take in a show for the same outlay, and it’s arguable as to which would give you the most pleasure. -
Cheap Rolls Royce Silver Cloud DHC in Historics Mammoth 20th August Auction 4 Aug 2016 (News)
The car is complete and described as "structurally sound with the only rust problems located to the offiside front wing." The brakes need overhauling, the steering box needs rebuilding or replacing and the tyres are wrong. However, the engine starts and runs well so, for someone with the right facilities, it could be a sensible investment. -
A Grand Monday: Rover 620ti, £950 25 Apr 2016 (News)
But it has been enthusiast owned, and has seen quite a bit of work in recent months including a full brake overhaul, replacement window regulators (a known weak point) and new alloys and tyres. It’s also very nicely presented, in British Racing Green. It’s not perfect – there’s a hint of corrosion at the lower edges of both rear arches (a very common rust spot on any Rover 600) – but the body and interior have generally held up well, while the T-Series is renowned for being a strong and long-lived engine. -

Those numbers are made up of features fitted either as standard or optionally. -

A typically strong ACA line-up saw a 1975 230.4 making £7,245 and a rarely-seen 300SD bought for £9450. Performance bargain of the sale was a 1999 E55, bought for £2,310. -
Historics 1960 Healey 3000 Comp Spec: Restore, or Leave as is? 27 Apr 2015 (News)
While power is fed through the straight cut, close ratio gearbox, and the treasure chest also extends to an LSD, servo-assisted brakes and uprated shock absorbers, adjustable at the rear. The history is known. The car originally left the factory in March 1960 with a black hardtop, Dunlop Road Speed tyres, laminated windscreen, disc wheels all round and adjustable steering column.
