2006 Mercedes CLK 200 Kompressor Cabrio - High days and holidays car, a report 5 Jan 2020 (Forum)
It has something of that well-engineered feel that the Mk1 TT had and I think we must have got the facelifted version that came in after Mercedes sorted the rust problems that so badly affected their early 2000's cars as there's not a trace of it. Jeez, that was a long post!

Skoda Yeti - Skoda Yeti - my thoughts on 10K miles / 1 year 1 Sep 2013 (Forum)
I then had the Bolero (radio) flashed by the main dealer in order to address the "slow SD card read" issue - this made a huge difference. The overall average mpg was in the low 30's (70% Urban / 30% Mway). The best MPG was just over 40 mpg and the worst well into the 20's. The car was exceptionally quiet at high speed. I came to the Yeti from a "proper" Lexus and didn't in any way feel short changed in the refinement department.

VW MOT Con 29 Sep 2002 (Forum)
The dealer however 'needed' to know within 5-10mins, and as my girlfriend was in such a panic and not being able to get a hold of me she told them to go ahead if the box was indeed in need of replacement. The work she was told, would be completed by Wednesday night. s**s law though, I called her as soon as she put the phone down and was taken aback by the cost of the work. I contacted the dealer and asked why the box needed replaced and why exactly the bracker could not be repaired or replaced.

Renault - RAC breakdown. Not a good idea 1 Jun 2025 (Forum)
I arranged my own recovery at a fraction of the RAC quote and got the vehicle back home. I noticed the N/S/F splash guard had been removed and placed in back of vehicle so went to put it back on. This is when I noticed the Earth strap the Patrol man had fitted was insecure and a terrible fix. I addressed this and hey presto all the lights and the wipers worked.

                BMW 5 Series 2019 530e or 520d - Changed my mind... I think. 17 Mar 2023 (Forum)
ive only ever owned Ford Modeos etc, not really a badge snob but I was very impressed by the car. Im in my mid 40's now and want a bit of comfort / luxury. Looked at the e class too, but do prefer the Beemer. the 530e is a similar price, yes heaver with the lbattery but plenty of HP to componsate. Views on 5 series please, pitfalls and good stuff, as always thank you, you're a knowledgable bunch and steered me in the right Direction over the years!

Smoothest riding car you have ever been in? 13 Feb 2021 (Forum)
v=cJLB0AU3-pI Close 2nd would be an LS400 but I think that won on quietness rather than ride quality (although admittedly very good still), in the Lincoln you got the v8 burble, in the Lexus there was near-silence which i think almost gives the illusion of better ride quality. Both were better than a 2007 S-Class I experienced brand new. Any other submissions? Bonus points for anything in the UK market or at least RHD...

09 Ford Focus estate 1.6 TDCi Zetec 109bhp - Intermittent engine stutter 31 Jan 2021 (Forum)
My friend is of the opinion that a clean of the EGR valve is the first action but seems reluctant to do it as they are apparently real awkward b*****s to get to. I have been reading some stuff posted on the internet which includes posts here so thought I would ask your thoughts????? Car has a wet partculate system, I only ever 'fill' the tank and use BP fuel as advised by more than one mechanic, can't speak for the previous driver.

Nissan Note - Timing chain & engine damage - what to do next? 6 Sep 2020 (Forum)
I haven't been able to find any other posts on this topic, but please forgive me if I missed any. I have a 1.2L Petrol Nissan Note Dig-S from 2014. I bought it last year and it's done 26,000 miles. Unfortunately the timing chain seems to have broken. This is a part which, as I understand it, is designed to last the lifetime of the car.

n/a - Essentials of good service. 29 Jul 2020 (Forum)
It's in the foreword to the Ford Model T service manual published by Ford Detroit. It's not dated but is probably printed around the 1920's - a hundred years ago! If you want to read it in it's entirety of over 300 pages it details such service actions as taking up main bearing caps with a file and straightening sprung con-rods with a straightening bar.

Volkswagen Scirocco - Issue with Covea who are handling Non-fault Claim 12 Jul 2020 (Forum)
This I instructed on the 3rd of July and they in turn took over the claim and also had the vehicle moved to their salvage agent. What's transpired this afternoon is that having done a licence check, 2 x SP30's haven't been disclosed to them and their UW's have confirmed that this would of resulted in a 22% increase in premium had they been made aware. (Policy auto-renewed with broker in January). As such they are now saying that when it comes to claims pay-out (non-fault claim, liability from Third party admitted and Police incident log confirms this) they intend to reduce the claims payout by the percentage increase that would of been applied to the premium.

Volkswagen Polo IV - Timing Chain - Robert E 22 Jun 2020 (Forum)
Hi, I am interested to see if anyone has had the same of similar Experience as me on the latest (2009/10 onwards) VW POLO 1.2 S A/C, 3 Cylinder, Petrol 60ps. In short the timing chain had stretched which has put the timing out I have a 2010 Polo with 85,000miles on the clock. I had the traction control light appear along with the engine management light and a massive reduction in power with a deeper muffled sound to the engine.

Private plates and the wonderful DVLA 13 Jun 2018 (Forum)
I haven't had a cheque book for lord knows how many years, I would have to order a bankers draft and a postal order would cost me £10 on top of the £80 I have to pay for this 1950's experience. What is going on? I never knew Brexit would take us back 6-7 decades.

Used tall car for tall driver 28 Apr 2018 (Forum)
I'm 6'6" tall unfortunately which has lead to problems as even large SUV/Crossovers don't seem that much bigger inside than smaller models (the car grows but not the space for the driver). We didn't initially fancy an MPV but I sat in a Ford S-Max yesterday and it did seem more roomy and comfortable and the visibility was a lot better than the Cross/SUVs we tried (Mazda CX-5, Qashqai, VW Touareg, Ford Kuga etc). Is this the best of the MPV bunch for comfort and space?

Skoda Octavia Estate - Possible first time new car buyer (Octy?) 16 Mar 2018 (Forum)
I’d really appreciate some advice, it’s the first time I’ve been looking at a car costing more than 6K, am I missing something or are some of these PCP deals (‘deposit contributions’) actually good value – barring any hideous %s where I assume they would normally claw back the initial ‘deal’ reduction. (reason for petrol: 10-12K per year, typically 2x20mi per day, and my current diesel regens every 200 miles, usually when I'm in view of home or work!)

                Volvo V40 - Alternatives to a Volvo V40 18 Nov 2017 (Forum)
My son is in his late 20's and coming out of his company's car scheme. He's asled my advice on what to get. He's been spoilt by large diesel estates (Mondeo, Passat and Avensis) so although he doesn't need a large car he doesn't want to step back to his supermini days even though its usually just him in the car.

Help choosing the right car please 27 Feb 2017 (Forum)
Hi, Im looking for some help choosing a new car. I currently drive 61 plate Honda Civic 1.4 Type S. I actually really like my car. It feels good to drive, looks sporty without verging on being a boy racer type and I love the modern style dashboard and interior. Downsides are the 1.4 is just lacking any oomph especially going up hills and it's a 3dr.

Ford Focus Mk2 Hatchback - Advice On Which Car To Buy 23 Feb 2017 (Forum)
If anyone has either of these engines of this model please let me know what you think is best. I really am in two minds and cant decide what to do. I have even looked at Fiesta Zetec S 1.6Tdci as they dont have the DPF if im correct in saying this. I woud happily take the 1.6 petrol but dont know how good they are on fuel! Any help would be much appreciated, Thank you Mike
