Scrap! 5 Apr 2007 (Forum)
So, off to the scrap metal man it went - he's got a surprisingly useful job, and the processing is interesting. The scrap vehicle has the tyres removed, and all fluids drained. Some of these are recycled (fuel, particularly, is put into drums, and sent for "cleaning" and re-use. The scrap man is paid for this fuel). After this, the whole vehicle goes straight through a shredder, which reduces it to small pieces. -

Range Rover cutting out 27 Nov 2006 (Forum)
'Tis very odd! Its a 1986 "Classic" manual with fuel injection, and usually I quite like it. However...... Its just had surgery to repair rust for its MOT, so you think it'd be grateful. No chance! Every 3 or 4 miles or so it cuts out. Dead. Without warning. -
CR Diesel Nightmares. 9 Nov 2006 (Forum)
I've tried it with the last 3 fuel fills & the engine starts & runs the same as it always has. Can anyone see any downfall in this idea. At least I can sleep sounder at night LOL. -

306td...no ignition?? 29 May 2004 (Forum)
The fuel pump has not been disturbed so the pump internal timing should be fine. It is not an immobiliser problem. Its cracking me up, can anybody shed any light on other possible causes? -
BP Diesel, rough running. Vauxhall Omega 15 May 2004 (Forum)
I\'ve a newish Omage 2.2 DTI that\'s had misfire below 2,000 rmp for the last 10,000 miles. The dealer has tried everything to cure it (new ECU, remove and flush fuel system etc) and I was on the point of getting rid of the car. At the last visit they said avoid BP fuel, which as it happens I almost always use. Something about a high bio-diesel content and a known problem with Ford diesels. -
Reporting pot holes 5 May 2004 (Forum)
This is very strange; they acknowledge the pot holes but fail to repair it immedietely. It reminds me of Rogue Traders: they take the money (fuel and road tax), the finished product is appaling (pot holes) and they run away. Shouldn't there be a law protecting us consumers where if we pay for the road, and the road is poorly/ not maintained we should get a refund on our road tax and fuel taxation. -
Warranty Compensation 17 Jan 2004 (Forum)
My Volvo was off the road recently for about 2 weeks in 2 seperate incidents. The end result was that the fule pump and fuel injectors were replaced, with a total retail cost of between 4 to 5k. The cause of the problem, was never found, the fuel injectors were not at fault, but were replaced anyway. This happened after 31k miles and over a year into the 3 year/60k warranty. -
Engine Insulation 2 Nov 2003 (Forum)
By reducing heat loss, plastic wraps could theoretically cut fuel consumption by 5% in the summer and up to 10% in the winter. The system has been tested at the Cologne University of Applied Sciences using a 1.4 litre Volkswagen Golf. A research team led by Professor Norbert Deuben enclosed the car's engine with 30mm thick polyurethane foam boards. -
New petrol types 23 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Car (Renault Clio 1.4 16v) slightly more responsive 3. Apparently increased economy. No measuring yet, just that while driving the usual way, the fuel needle moves more slowly. What surprised me is that with plain Shell V-power (98 octane unleaded) my Clio was more responsive than with BP Ultimate! But then again, maybe it was just a feeling... -
Failed VW TDI PD engine 23 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Hi, I am interested if anybody else has had a similar problem to me and what VW's attitude was. My 3 year 4 month old Golf TDI PD(115hp) engine died at 35,000 miles. The cause apparently was fuel leaking from the injector over night. On starting the engine, the con rod under the cylinder which full of fuel bent - as diesel isn't too compressible. After 5 weeks, a new engine and nearly £1,600 I got my car back. -
4X4 that runs on both Petrol and Diesel 22 Mar 2002 (Forum)
We both looked at each other in puzzlement; I remember debating with him the possibilities of running an engine "dual-fuel". The discussion went on and on until we were thoroughly perplexed at how any manufacturer could achieve this without actually using 2 separate engines or changing the properties of the fuel itself. -
Follow on to car jacking thread 27 Nov 2001 (Forum)
One woman asked the interviewee, (who I assume to be a Govt spokesman judging by the mealy mouthed nature of his answers) why if the environmental argument was valid for road transport did it not apply to airlines re duty free fuel, and why dual standards were being applied. The answer was that two different situations apply. UK fuel duty is there because its a travel contained within the UK situation, whereas airlines are operating an import/export business and it needs the whole world to agree on duties. -
