ford focus estate,diesel, 1.8litre, 1999 - Engine will not start 15 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Have checked all fuses, but don't know about relays. Some say there are 2 pumps on this car, electric and mechanicxal, some say it's on the injector pump. Before I decided not to use the car I covered the engine with an old coat, I thought I might have dislodged a wire, but have looked fairly thoroughly and seems all in tact, can you help please? -
Rover 75 2.0 CDT servicing 26 Jan 2010 (Forum)
The car seems to performing faultlessly and I am loathe to spend needless money for the dealer ( I think about £250) just to oil the hinges. -
Diesels of Yesteryear - pre 2000 1 Oct 2009 (Forum)
I think that is an astonishing figure considering the car is from 1993. The engine sounds pretty clattery on startup but is actually a fairly quiet cruiser. Anyway the point of the thread is for people to comment on their diesel cars of the past - pre year 2000, bad and good (bad ones more so because they are usually funnier to read about!). -
Mazda Mazda 6 (2008 -) - Thoughts etc 13 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Its a minor irritation I also noticed on a Peugeot 207 about 18 months ago. Otherwise, I can't really fault the car. It is smooth, quiet, economical, spacious. However as I am getting into middle age (mid forties) I appreciate more and more cars with a raised platform. Dropping down into the seats of a regular saloon is so old fashioned when you just slip into an Outback, Forester, Mazda 5 etc. without your spine getting a jolt as your bottom hits the seat base. -
Peculiar Crime 31 Dec 2008 (Forum)
The deeper one is why do we have a Police force no longer interested in catching criminals? 2. The curious one os what were they nicking, I mean why remove things from under the bonnet of old cars? -
Ford Fiesta (1989 - 1995) - 95 1.3 Central locking fault 21 Apr 2008 (Forum)
My problem is I can't lock the car at all. This is a 5 door model, and is key operated. When the key is turned on the drivers door, only the motor on... -

They diagnose problem, order parts, arrange a car hire (AT SAAB expense). Tuesday PM Holdcroft SAAB phone and arrange for this Saturday to get the car back & return of Hire Car. -
New Citroen C8 caught Fire 27 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Has anybody on this forum heard anything about cars catching fire by themselves (new ones)? My C8 (4 months old) did this 2 weeks ago, and Citroen are not coming clean with providing a replacement under warranty. In fact they are basically doing nothing.. -
Bangernomics 20 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Garages are no longer very interested in anything over 8-10 years old, as they have to provide a warranty, yet engines and bodywork last longer than ever, if looked after, and the world seems to be filling up with cars that are nowhere near the end of their useful lives, but that nobody really wants. -
Car insurance for foreign national 22 May 2006 (Forum)
I have just imported the jeep from Japan. 4. I'm 24 years old. 5. I can't insure the car under my wife's name as she doesn't drive. My question is: should insurers take into consideration my clean slate back in Dominica, or does the clock start from the day I get my UK drivers licence? -
What's a good car for a bad back? 23 Feb 2006 (Forum)
The car being replaced is a Volvo 850, more than 12 years old, and my dad believes the relatively low slung driver's seat, into which you have to lower your body, has exacerbated his back problem. So he wants the replacement to have a driver's seat higher off the ground. -
Young Driver in non fault accident 20 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Can anyone recommend any good firms of solicitors specialisingin this area in the West Devon area who will act on a no win no fee basis? I am concious that there are protocols but when you pitch an insurance company against a 19 year old with no car, these can often be ignored. Any good advice would be much appreciated - Thanks Hugo -
vw costs (golf GTTDi) 8 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Service was as usual expensive but the recommended repairs were astonishing (at least to me who runs a very old and cheap to look after mondeo) "Wishbone bushes starting to seperate" £319.60 "Rear axle bushes parted" £301.97 "Slight play in anti roll bar bushes" £116.32 Now for a car which runs and drives as well as the day we got it I'm not sure I believe there's any significant problem. -
Xantia's progress 20 Apr 2005 (Forum)
He reckons it has lasted so long because the coolant has always been replaced at more or less the required intervals. My wife thinks it is a lot of money to pay on a car that is worth next to nothing but the car is in good shape, and is still lovely to drive. Maintenance has to be done, no matter how old the car is. -
Rising scrap prices 27 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Whilst buying some steel from the local stockest, who is also the local scrap dealer, I noticed something I thought I'd never see again. Money was being PAID for scrap cars! Cars with tyres and all were coming in and the chap was paying for them. I don't know how much per tonne but he took a phone call and said that if the punter could get the car to him he would pay them for it. -
Car Ideas? 3 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Ok - I have a 6 yr old Japanese 3dr hatch that I want to change. I do 12-14,000 miles a year mostly a motorway commute - can be a crawl at times - other time 70+ mph. My current car is lacking in toys and refinement. Also - at 70+ mph it's at 3700 rpm which I find quite wearing. -
MR2 Mk1 Supercharged. 20 Aug 2002 (Forum)
(Of course not proveable but does it matter on a car this old?) It is a right hand drive AUTOMATIC. I understand these cars are rare as only a limited number of MR2 SCs were made hence l would expect a higher than normal price but...£3K? I therefore humbly request your advice. -
Cam belts 28 Nov 2001 (Forum)
Of course what happens is, because there is no public transport system worthy of the name, the average professional family simply buys a cheap third car with a license plate that differs from the other cars in the family, so nobody gets denied transport, and the problem is exacerbated with yet more vehicles on the road. THe obvious result is that the poor old hack car gets much abuse and not much attention. -
Diesel, pertrol or LPG ? Which is best for the ' 20 Nov 2001 (Forum)
For the average punter, running a second hand motor, say 10,000 miles per year, over 3 years, which would be the cheaper to run, say a 2 or 2.2 litre turbo diesel or a 1.8 petrol{similar performance}. I am currently thinking of changing one of my cars. I cannot decide if I should buy a diesel or not. I've always owned petrol engined cars. A 3 year old diesel tends to sell for about £1,000 more than an equivalent pertol model {that is they had the same list price when new.} -
Vauxhall Zafira Tourer - Zafira tourer information. 30 Jan 2024 (Forum)
I tend to buy a car and run it till it dies (around 13 years old ) and now is the time for a newer car, the last two cars model a zafira which not being a fan it was reliable and a xsara picasso which I got cheap but have never been happy with ,with regards reliability so much so that it's time for a newer car.
