Vw tdi - 1.9 tdi rough running very lumpy? 3 Jan 2022 (Forum)
I know this is almost impossible to diagnose fully online but I am just wondering on the off chance possibly this may have happened someone on here before? To me I’m leaning towards the fuel side of things but I’m not sure where to start with that. Thanks -
Recommendation - comfortable, large car. c£12000 17 Jul 2021 (Forum)
My priority is something that is comfortable, spacious, hopefully stands out a bit and has decent performance. I am only doing around 10k miles a year so fuel costs are not my biggest concern. Also I won't be pottering aroung in it doing small journeys. We are a family of 4, all full sized adults, and wouldn't anticipate needing to carry more people than that very often. -
New style petrol pump 12 Jul 2021 (Forum)
For all I know these may have been in use for ages, but due to lockdown I haven't been out of my local area much so only use 1 or 2 local fuel stations. However I am currently away in North Wales and used a Shell garage today just outside Llandudno Junction. Rather than the all familiar trigger handle you simply pressed fast flow or slow flow on the handle and it filled the tank. -

Any - E10 petrol - from September 25 Apr 2021 (Forum)
The Gov website advises that both cars will accept E10 without issue, which will be cheaper to buy, So why am I not interested in changing fuels on two cars which have been totally reliable for years on end. Am I wrong? -
First EV servive station 13 Dec 2020 (Forum)
I expect the company and its customers are laughing at the moment with the price of electric with no fuel duty or VAT How long can this be sustainable and what disadvantages to the tax payer and ICE motorists. EV owners with their own chargers will only use a station in an emergency or out of distance from home. -
Astra mk6 1.4T 140 - Octane Requirement 16 Nov 2020 (Forum)
The manual says 95 octane recommended, 91 and 98 possible. I'm struggling to think why it wouldn't run better on 98 (or other higher octane fuel). Yes, it's possibly mapped for 95 but with 200Nm at 1850rpm that's a lot more stress/compression (almost double) compared to its naturally aspirated equivalent which is also recommended to run on 95. -
Vauxhall Zafira - ? White Smoke but only when in 5/6th gear 30 Oct 2020 (Forum)
I originally thought it was the head gasket but there is no movement on the fluid and this has also been checked by the garage The garage has changed two fuel injectors as well as checked the other two but still no cure Any ideas what this could be? -
Health and - Driving after Covid 19 30 Jul 2020 (Forum)
Earlier, when I resumed driving I noticed a lot of difference when moving from sunlight in to those lovely dense tree lined rural roads we have. I am quite sure that the more cautious approach to driving is helping with the fuel economy and MPG. Finally, I have been very lucky with the medics who pronounced me in good nick for 69 yr old. -
Land Rover Range Rover Evoque - Partner Wants a Used Range Rover Evoque ... 13 Jul 2020 (Forum)
The service cost is high compared to any car either of us have owned (£400 - £700) and she currently drives a 1 litre small petrol car so I imagine the fuel costs will be at least double. What other costs are likely to be incurred if the car is 5 years old? Are there other things she should consider? What would be a good alternative motor? -
SEAT Ibiza - Emissions Advice - MOT failure 30 Jan 2020 (Forum)
I’m guessing from the high HC that the car is running rich, unsure on what to change/check next. Only things i can think of to replace would be engine coolant sensor and fuel filter. I’m getting the cat checked tomorrow as well Any help would be great -
Which of these used cars would you choose? 27 Jun 2019 (Forum)

Vw golf bluemotion tsi 1.4 2013 - Car been off road idle for approx 1 year 4 Feb 2019 (Forum)
I’ve had a couple of people tell me that it will be fine just to jump start the car and see what happens and I’ve had a couple tell me that I should drain oil and fuel and install new battery before starting it for the first time. I’m guessing the best option would be to get it towed to the nearest vw garage and get them to do a full service with new tyres etc but I’m quite restrained by budget. -

Vauxhall Corsa D - White Smoke on Startup 27 Mar 2018 (Forum)
It's something that's been happening for some time, even after MOTs and services. A friend told me it's excess fuel burning. The car drives well, idles fine and apart from a few seconds on the occasional start up it never happens while driving. No black or blue smoke either. Thanks in advance. Chris. -
Ford C-MAX (2003 - 2010) - 04 1.6 TDCI Best way to prime diesel 25 Mar 2018 (Forum)
Can anyone shed light on the best way to prime the diesel on a C-Max? I can't see any hand primer in the fuel lines. Originally it had a leaking injector so replaced the injector seal. So far I have tried cracking the injectors but only getting a dribble at best. I have filled the filter to the brim and then cracked injectors again, but nothing. -
Any - French police handing out €50 rewards to drivers 20 Feb 2018 (Forum)
Police on patrol in the Dordogne are planning to pull over several drivers today and give them a €50 voucher as a reward for good driving! Officers in unmarked cars will offer the vouchers - which can be used to pay for fuel - to four drivers who drove courteously, stayed within the speed limits, use their indicators correctly. They will (discretely!) follow vehicles for 15 minutes, during which time they will carry out a check on the vehicle to see if they driver has any convictions. -
MGB - MGB on premium petrol 12 Feb 2018 (Forum)
My old '73 BGT was happy on super unleaded, but needed the ignition timing retarding slightly to stop it pinking (the engines were designed with the old 5-star 100-octane fuel in mind). Valve seat recession usually isn't a problem on older engines, as the valve seats will retain traces of lead from older use which will offer some protection. If the owner has any concerns, an occasional dose of lead substitute is a LOT cheaper than having hardened valve seats fitted. -
Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 27-01-2018 Part 1 30 Jan 2018 (Forum)
Obviously diesel may fall into the sump whether or not the engine is turned on, but bear in mind that a diesel stops because fuel stops being injected, so turning it off during a cycle will be trivial in comparison. My Mazda 6 oil level rises irrespective of driving style, and DPF regeneration varies between160-230 km seemingly irrespective of driving style, so it is crazy to drive another 15km every time it wants to regenerate. -
Regular high mileage motorway recommendations 22 Mar 2017 (Forum)
Cruise Control. Budget of up to around £8K Not too worried about engine size, car size, badge, fuel type, although am guessing mid size, hatchback/saloon, diesel are prob best trade off on the above requirements. Thanks a lot for all help :) Mark
