  • Galaxy gearbox ecu nightmare 16 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Is it possible they did receive gearbox ecu and fitted it to engine instead?????(dunno even what one looks like...)The ECU we wanted sits beside the battery and is removed by sliding the battery sideways...Are we talking about the same thing even...????please help, running out of options here and the 'customer service' has been terrible, just defensive and hostile - 'closing ranks' and just telling us it's our fault........................:0( :0(
  • Peugeot 306 Electrics/lights problem! 10 Apr 2003 (Forum)
This then got worse, they would switch on & off regulary on their own, and I was obviously ending up with a flat battery. Then I had no headlights (or tail lights) for about a week. Everything else worked fine including brake lights, indicators, reverse lights etc, I just had no Side/Dip or main beam & rear lights. I took it to my local garage, who could not find the fault, so I was restricted to driving in daylight hours only.
  • Range Rover 1989 3.6L EFI light 11 May 2002 (Forum)
It is a different computer to that used in the 1989 V-8 range Rovers anywhere else in the world due to the US Emission laws I think). My Guess is the the totally Flat Battery has done something to the computer as my gentle 24 hour recharge should have precluded any surge damage that a jump start might have caused. So before I resort to the Homer Simpson \"Fix\" of a patch of black electrical tape over the warning light...
  • New Cars - Not enjoyable to drive? 22 Jul 2025 (Forum)
It's nice enough, but it definitely feels heavy and not very nimble. I'm not sure if that's because the hybrid battery was fully depleted, maybe the electric assist wasn’t kicking in? Should it have recharged itself? Hard to tell what the car is doing? Perhaps I just didn’t figure out how to operate it properly.

  • Honda Jazz - Getting car on the road after 3 yrs 27 Oct 2023 (Forum)
I understand it would be worth between £1,890 - £2,100 in a road-worthy condition but I'd like to know what work is likely to be required to return it to that state, and hence whether this would give me a better return than just sc***ping it for a few hundred quid. I'm aware that the battery is dead, it has two flat tyres which may well need to be replaced and it will need an oil / fuel change but I guess this would just be the tip of the iceberg. Obviously it would need an MOT as well (and the last MOT included an advisory for 'Macpherson strut pin or bush worn' on both the near and offside front upper).
  • Vauxhall Zafira B - Zafira B electrical problems 25 Feb 2023 (Forum)
However, when I towed it to the dealer, the electrics came on ( as soon as I stopped they went off again ). The engine still would not start  though. I have tested the battery which is ok, tried  the spare key, which still does nothing and tried my fault code reader, which would not even power up. The dealer put it on their computer, and told me "it could be the fuse box" at a cost of £378.00 fitted.
  • 2019 A3 Tfsi - Audi service 15 Jun 2022 (Forum)
On my return I lifted the bonnet to replenish the windscreen washer and check the oil and found that the engine cover was missing and the battery terminal covers were adrift. The cover had not fallen off because if it had, it would still be in the engine compartment, nowhere else for it to go. Someone in the workshop must wonder why there is an engine cover lying around.
  • Can you recommend all-season tyres for my VW ID.3? 31 May 2022 (Ask HJ)
Please would you recommend replacement mid-price all-season tyres for my Volkswagen ID.3, East Derry 19-inch alloys?
  • NCAP, safety, smart motorways and safest fuel? 11 Jul 2021 (Forum)
Fortunately the driver got out safely.  I don't think an electric car would be any better either, if the fragile lithium battery in a mobile phone can ignite when bent under an airline seat. Maybe diesel is the safest fuel?  My brother’s diesel fuel line split, spilling diesel over a hot exhaust.  No problem, switch off engine, fix hose, drive away again.
  • Mitsubishi Colt 1.1 - Recommissioning a car 28 Feb 2021 (Forum)
Are these good cars and what problems should I be looking for on this model? I am expecting that it would need a complete service, new brake discs and pads, a battery and possibly a set of tyres. I could do most of this myself. Anything I am overlooking?
  • Vauxhall corsa d 1.2 2010 petrol - Cold start problems corsa d 1.2 petrol 2010 17 Nov 2020 (Forum)
I have replaced the coolant temperature sensor on the radiator and cleared the code. I have replaced the battery and spark plugs also and the problem persists. Also i don't know if it's a seperate problem but i have accessed the hidden temp screen and the car temperature won't climb above around 55°c even after replacing the sensor.
  • Ford Fiesta - Headlights turn only turn on when switched off 17 Oct 2020 (Forum)
Does anyone have any suggestions what could be causing the issue? Not sure if its relevant but I barely use the car any longer, I had a completely flat battery about a year ago as it hadn't been used in so long. I've tried to take it out every now and again just to stop this happening again. I'm not sure if this would be related. Thanks for any help you can provide
  • Kia Niro EV - Cost of Charging EV's away from home 14 Sep 2020 (Forum)
The latest figure I have seen is 70p per kwH, which, by my reckoning makes and EV about 30% more expensive to fuel than a hydrocarbon car. My reasoning is: Battery capacity on my PHEV - roundly 7kWh. Cost of home charging = 7 x 15p = £1.05 for 30 miles. Petrol cost for 30miles £1.11 per litre - @ 40mpg = approx - approx £3.75 Charging cost for 7kwh @ 70p per KwH = £4.90.

Which tyre inflator do you recommend? A recent puncture on my wife's car has highlighted the vulnerability of modern cars carrying no spare wheel.
  • Vauxhall Frontera sports - Alarm immobilizer thatcham vauxhall Frontera sport 20 Apr 2020 (Forum)
Battery went flat and alarm kept going off so somebody removed something either under bonnet or wheel arch but cannot remember where to disconnect sirens. I have 2 keys, not fob type, and only one appears to work to switch off thatcham alarm immobilizer.
