  • Race Retro pays tribute to Motorsport legend Norman Dewis 6 Feb 2020 (News)
    . The Jaguar Enthusiasts’ Club, with the support of the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust, have assembled a line-up of three cars that represent key moments in Norman’s career. The display’s earliest car is a Jaguar C-Type. Dewis began developing the disc brake concept on the C-Type. The technology was fitted to Stirling Moss' Jaguar C-Type in the 1952 Mille Miglia, and Dewis accompanied him as a passenger. Next, is the oldest surviving convertible E -Type 77RW, that Dewis famously drove through the night, at short notice, from Coventry to the Geneva Motor Show ready for the 10am press launch for the car.

  • Honda's new Mean Mower can hit 150mph 4 Jul 2018 (News)
    The Mean Mower has a bespoke lightweight chassis made using T45 steel, intended to allow an element of flexibility - important for comfort and durability as it does without suspension. Brakes are fairly hefty four-piston calipers to the front and six-piston calipers to the rear. Honda hasn't said exactly when it's going for the record, but it has recruited 23-year-old stunt driver Jess Hawkins to help tame the mower.
  • Three Hot Rods, a Mustang 289 convertible and a ’54 Airstream caravan in Historics 3rd March Ascot Auction. 18 Feb 2018 (News)
    Unusual and very special thr chopped-top 1940 Ford pick-up based hot rod features a 289ci Mercury flathead V8 with Edelbrock heads, twin Strombergs and other period parts including 1947 drum brakes. Build is of a very high quality commensurate with an estimate of £45,000 to £50,000.   1964 was the first year of production of the Ford Mustang and this ’64 convertible features GT spec with an uprated 289ci (4.7 litre) V8 and a 3-speed torque converter auto. £12,500 has been recently spent and by ’64 Mustang GT standard it’s very competitively estimated at £23,000 to £27,000.
  • 1972 Toyota Crown Custom returned to the road 20 Feb 2017 (News)
    After discovering that the Crown was potentially for sale, Robin snapped it up for a fair price and became its proud new owner. Minor issues such as blown bulbs, binding rear drum brakes and a small hole in the original exhaust system were fixed. And soon enougn the Crown was road legal again. Ready to cruise serenely around the Surrey Hills – with the running-in sticker still displayed as an excuse for driving slowly.

    Obviously it needs a thorough mechanical overhaul, which isn't too onerous a task on one of these, as well as new brakes and tyres - but overall it looks like a relatively straightforward (or straight backward) project. At £950, it's a very sensible price for a car with such provenance, and promises to be a rewarding one to revive.

    Benefitting from input from Lotus Engineering Race Technology, the Metro Turbo featured a 1275cc engine with a Garrett T3 turbo on a specially designed and cast exhaust manifold, powerful servo assisted brakes using four-pot calipers, ventilated discs up front, stiffer suspension, and also sported a new bodykit with a front spoiler, wheelarch extensions, and rear spoiler. It rides on Turbo-specific 13in alloy wheels and low-profile tyres.
  • A Grand Monday: Peugeot 106 XS 31 Oct 2016 (News)
    The cylinder head (a common XU failure point) has been replaced, along with the valve seals, radiator, clutch, brakes and timing belt. The car is also totally standard, with an immaculate interior – both rare for a 106 XS. Finding another one in such original, untouched condition won’t be easy, especially not with just the one owner from new.
  • 1963 Innocenti 1100S Spider Joins Lots in Historics 24th November Auction 22 Oct 2016 (News)
    . Owned and by the vendor for the last 35 years, this charming and original example has a lovely used and cherished patina. The engine, rear differential and brakes were rebuilt in 2002. Estimated at £30,000 to £40,000. Now they are out of production, massive interest in LandRover Defenders will ensure this V8 example roars off to a new home.
  • Supercharged '63 Studebaker Hawk GT For Historics Winter Auction 8 Oct 2016 (News)
    With Studebaker's own 289ci (4.7 litre) R2 V8, Avanti R2 supercharger, Avanti Power Shift autobox and disc brakes, it's actually quicker than early 60s Mustangs and Corvettes with a top speed of over 150mph. Estimated at £15,000 - £20,000. We've seen this 1968 Ford Mustang GT500 Eleanor recreation before.
  • Another Jaguar E-type barn find up for auction 22 Sep 2016 (News)

  • Skoda Fabia vRS Estate (2010-) 19 Jun 2016 (News)
    It’s fitted with a system called XDS as standard which acts like an electronic differential. Basically it improves cornering by slightly braking the inside front wheel when accelerating through corners, transferring power to the outside wheel. The result is that you don’t need as much steering turn in corners and the vRS is keen when tackling tight corners.

    .  To go with its sporting nature the vRS gets sports suspension and has been lowered by 12mm plus it gets the XDS electronic differential as standard. This system cleverly brakes the inside wheels in corners, making the car feel more agile and meaning less steering lock is required. On the road the Octavia is a revelation compared to the standard car with much improved steering feel and a sharper nature through corners.
  • Rare 1960s Costin-Nathan race car heads to auction 1 Jun 2016 (News)
    Mid-mounted and canted over by 54 degrees, the 998cc powerplant was allied to a close-ratio gearbox. Weighing in at just 700lbs and boasting all-round independent suspension, four-wheel disc brakes and magnesium alloy wheels, the Costin-Nathan proved to be fast.

    Although it had a full MoT before it was garaged, the potential purchaser will still have to make sure it’s recommissioned properly – brakes checked, fluids refreshed, and new filters. According to the advert, the cambelt was changed before the car was garaged. Make sure you see evidence of this and remember – you may even want to budget to do it again as we’re pretty sure it’s a seven year/70k interval.

    When released in 1955, the Triumph TR3 was a considerable progression from the previous TR2. Most notably, perhaps, it was the first British series production car to feature disc brakes, technology that we all now take for granted. Ten years later, the Triumph TR4A was introduced, again showcasing significant steps forward in sports car engineering with its independent rear suspension and revised styling to fit the requirements for indictor repeaters in the vital American market.
  • Historic racers wow Race Retro crowds 22 Feb 2015 (News)
    A gun synchroniser take-off is fitted to the front of the engine to stop the propellor shooting off. Like many veteran motors it only has rear cable brakes, and its top speed is limited to 120mph by drivetrain ratios.  A significant event at the start of the show was the unveiling of the Steady Special - a tribute to much-loved motoring writer Ronald ‘Steady’ Barker, who died recently.  Shortly after the end of the Second World War, the Vintage Sports Car Club and Lancia OC President transformed the 3-litre 1934 Lancia Astura into a two-seater racer.
  • Celebrate 30 years of the Sinclair C5 2 Jan 2015 (News)
    The C5 used both pedal power and an electric motor. Handlebars, located beneath the driver’s knees provided controls for steering, braking and acceleration. The design of the three-wheeled backbone chassis, constructed from steel, had been extensively developed by sports-car experts Lotus Cars. An electric motor powered the left-hand rear wheel, helping the C5 to reach 15mph – its top speed, as restricted by law.
