  • Settling existing finance 31 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I know from experience that most dealerships are happy to settle any existing finance you might have when trading in a car against one of their own. However, would a dealership be more reluctant to do so if the car your wanting to buy is worth less than the amount it would cost to settle your exisiting finance agreement?
  • Finance vendors at auction 13 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Whilst browsing the auction catalogues I notice there are a lot of 'finance' related vendors such as VW Financial Services and Hitachi Capital etc. Are the vehicles being sold by these vendors repossessions and is there any particular reason they should be avoided?

  • Buying advice needed, please. 14 May 2007 (Forum)
Presumably, the car remains the property of the finance company until the loan is settled. Could I pay the finance company directly? This way, I know there would be no outstanding finance, but I would be loathe to do this without getting the keys to the car at the same time - how do I know the seller isn't going to vanish with the car?
  • demonstrator on finance??? 20 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Had my new car (well 7 month old) HPI'd today. am buying from a SAAB dealership. my bro-in-law has hpi'd it for free for me, he works in motor trade. car is financed by GMAC, it has been refinanced on 01/04/2004, so has 2 account numbers relating to it. My bro-in-law says not to touch with barge-pole till they clear finance. i rang said SAAB dealer up and explained, he said that all ex-demo cars for saab are financed like this.

  • Finance question 2 Jan 2019 (Forum)
I opened the sales chat stating that I had two payments remaining and the balance, what are my options and would the outstanding finance be settled. I thought everything was ok, collected the new car, asked again if they had settled the finance, was verbally told yes. Checked my statement today and there's been a payment made for the last car. contacted the finance company and was informed there was an outstanding balance and the dealership had not requested a settlement figure.
  • Salesman passing on finance commision??? 14 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Hi I'm looking to buy a car from a main dealer. The salesman has offered to pass on the finance commision £1500. He says after I have made one payment I can phone up for a settlement fee and cancel the finance deal allowing me to take out a cheaper personal loan. The £1500 would be knocked of the price of the car.
  • MGR and outstanding finance 15 Aug 2006 (Forum)
The car was bought from a dealer in Jan this year for cash, the dealer had bought the car at auction ( disposal of MGR assets). The check shows outstanding finance from Capital Bank, with an agreement number of MGRXXXXXXXXXXX. It seems to me that Rover registered the car and took finance out against the car. Does this make sense? And are there creditors of Rover who might have rights over the car ( such as Capital Bank PLC)
  • One for finance/dealer boys 6 Jul 2005 (Forum)
So, I walk into a dealers to buy a car for £20k list. Lets say I can get £1500 discount for cash. Would I get more or less discount if I did a finance deal and at what point does a low finance deal become more cost effective that paying cash? -- Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
  • Distance selling regulations 1 Feb 2024 (Forum)
If a car is bought off premises, online from a dealership on finance but finance is fully paid a few days later, can the car still be given back under the 14 day cooling off period. Would it be the dealer who should accept the rejection of the car or the finance company
  • APR question 8 Jul 2008 (Forum)
As an Engineer, some of the finer points of finance are a mystery to me. Could someone explain to me why the monthly repayments quoted by car dealers and online car finance companies are different to those quoted by online APR/repayment calculators or loan companies for the same APR, term and amount financed?

  • porsche turbo - advice needed.. outsatnding finance on write off? 16 Feb 2011 (Forum)
The vehicle was purchased in good faith and at no time did the owner selling the vehicle give me any reason to believe that he did not own the vehicle and assured me that no finance was outstanding on the vehicle. In addition, in adverts advertising the sale of the vehicle no mention was made of any outstanding finance at the time, in fact it states clearly that there is ‘NO FINANCE’ outstanding on the vehicle.

  • Dealer hasn't settled finance on PX 9 May 2014 (Forum)
My problem is that the dealer has not yet settled the outstanding finance on my old car as part of the transaction. I realise I am still technically liable for the payments and I have not cancelled the Direct Debit as I don't want to affect my credit rating. I have spoken to the dealer several times since buying the car and he keeps promising to pay off the finance, but so far he hasn't.
  • Renault - Cat C - Reclaim salvage and finance house issues. 18 Aug 2007 (Forum)
My insurance co wanted to write off my 5 yr Renault Megane, the settlement they offered us was not enough, we would have been left with nothing due to outstanding finance, we choose to go down the road of reclaim salvage, we felt damage was not enough to totalled, water damage to gear box, we were told 18% would be deducted from our settlement. we were told this by 3 different people in insurance company, a week after our car had been put in garage to be repaired by insurance payout, we were informed that the insurance company were going to pay our finance company, without informing us. luckily through a lot of sweat and pleading we persuaded the finance company to let us keep settlement as long as we continued to pay finance. has anyone been in a similar situation or done a reclaim salvage themselves.
