Is it something that nearly new car buyers should be aware of? Hugo -
Car for huge mileage? 27 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Therefore, my annual mileage (my wife can't drive) is likely to skyrocket from about 5000 to somewhere around 30,000. I am sceptical that my 9 year old Rover 200 (excellent car though it has been) will be up to the job and, besides, the petrol costs would be astronomical. I am now thinking about getting a diesel car. I am not all that bothered about prestige etc. and I think that fuel economy will be my primary concern. -
VW Golf 4 TDI Match 100 cablegearchange 28 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Hi all, I wish I found your website before we purchased our car... We have bought a one-year-old VW Golf IV TDI three weeks ago. Since the first days we (my wife and I) had difficulties selecting gears - we returned the car for a check and VW readjusted the gears. -
Deal of the month 8 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Here's the deal. 01Y Corsa 1.2 Comfort with 41k - cost to change £7495 "Fire and theft insurance" (Gap insurance?) £29.99 per month Finance at 20.9% APR - £195 per month Total cost to change - £13499.40 Value of car in 5 years' £1200 Net cost including depreciation - £12300 The car's worth about £5500, less at auction. The sad thing is, he doesn't even have a bad credit record. Or he could have done: 03 Corsa 1.2 SX - £7838 with a year's free insurance (£600) Trade in for the old car - £850 (pessimistically, more privately) Finance at 6.7% APR - £136.97 x 60 or £214.55 x 36 Total cost to change - £8218.20 or £7723.80 Value of car at end - £4200 or £2800 Net cost including depreciation - £4018.20 or £4923.80 So, a deal that could have cost him less than £5k over 5 years on a brand new car has cost him over £12300! -
New keeper error? 8 Jul 2021 (Forum)
Hey! Just looking for some advice. In 2018 I part ex’d my car for a new vehicle. I gave the guy the log book to my old car and then he gave me the green slip with new details. He said I shouldn’t need to do anything else. I was driving the vehicle home so I taxed it there and then using the green slip. -
BMW 125i convertible - Seduced by a straight-six 6 Jul 2017 (Forum)
So with more work coming in than I thought in semi-retirement (very pleasant - writing and examining, mostly done at home), there's money sitting in my savings account earning less than 1%. Just too tempting....still missing my old Z3 a little....so look at Cars for Sale on this site. Given how impressive SWMBO's Audi A1 is, an A3 convertible? The 1.4 TSIs are too recent and too expensive. BMW? A 1-series is big enough, and there are some with the legendary straight-six. -
Renault Clio II (1998 - 2001) - 99 1.4 Problem ticking over 29 Oct 2016 (Forum)
He told me he would be able to fix it so he, again, replaced the idle control valve. It then wouldn't tick over at all! He replaced the old valve but the car would randomly rev up and wouldn't pass emitions test. I therefore had to declare it SORN as I couldn't tax it! He removed the ECU and sent it to Renault who reported no fault, informing him it would be the wiring. -
Estate help 14 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Hello everyone, I'm a complete newbie here and hope my query is appropriate. I'm looking to change my old Renault Clio for a bigger car. I've got up to £9,500 tops to play with and want something diesel and an estate. Diesel for the obvious consumption concerns and estate because I have a dog, could be getting another in the not too distant future. -
What I eventually bought 3 Aug 2015 (Forum)
I would like an automatic again but am not fussed about the badge. I am looking to spend £12k - £13k so most likely the car will be @3 years old. I know that a Ford Galaxy powershift and Seat Alhambra DSG would fit the bill but as I don't need 6/7 seats that much I don't really want a car that large to drive all the time. -
Rust retrospectively, predicting future 5 Mar 2007 (Forum)
and most modern young drivers will never have. But how do you predict the future for buying as rustproof a car as possible, when a Volkswagen and Mercedes Benz can rust faster than a Peugot and Fiat in the modern era? Lets narrow it down a bit to where it really matters, an old boy buying his last new ( retirement) car for under £8,000. -
Old Polo v New Polo 12 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Just prolonging the 15000 word dissertation a bit longer here really... Been driving a brand new Polo for the last couple of days, and thought I'd compare... -
SEAT Ibiza Sport TDi 130 - opinions? 15 May 2003 (Forum)
Right, I'm totally bored with my Jan2001 Honda Accord SE Exec 2.0 VTEC - it's a very nice car and all but it bores the pants off me. It's too big, too soft, too cosy and too much like the sort of car my in-laws should have (whenever I give them a ride anywhere they always say "Ohhhh this is a lovely car, we should get one like this"). -
Honda Jazz - Ten thousand miles in a Jazz 26 Jun 2019 (Forum)
So come 2021 I’ll probably be looking elsewhere, but as things stand I’ll remember this car, charisma-free old fogeywagon as it is, with significant affection. -
Audi Dealer woes, advice would be nice 4 May 2004 (Forum)
By the Sunday, the old problem had reared its head again. It woz not flipping fixed!!!!!!!! As soon as we are back from Cornwall, I take the car back to the dealer. That was a week ago. Despite promises that the car would be checked and myself updated by last Thursday, I have not heard a thing!!!!! -
Car dealer working from home. 12 Mar 2014 (Forum)
I have no problem with the cars, as they all seem to be 34 year old cars minimum £5000, no one has complained, his not got any signs on the cars & only parks on his drive way or in his garage, any visitors park out side his driveway The questions is he allowed & should I be concerned? -
Cars with outstanding HP 30 Apr 2004 (Forum)
The issue is, I think, merely that the 'previous owner' didn't own the car as title doesn't pass until the last payment has been made. So Mr Stanley might lose his car, that I understand, but is he really liable for the outstanding finance. If the AA is correct, perhaps I shouldn't be so casual about buying unchecked old bangers that might have hundreds of thousands of pounds secured on them... -
three years 6 months - Ssangyong Korando 15 Jul 2025 (Forum)
It made me smile, It has been the longest I have kept a car for many years Just one minor problem in that time, a coil pack at a couple of months old. Since then routine maintenance and 2 tyres. Still good to drive, still like the looks and especially the classic dashboard layout with physical controls. -
Renault - Should I trust Renault? 21 Jul 2024 (Forum)
We have been very happy with our Kadjar which we bought new 3 years ago. So much so we were on the verge of considering a Clio as our second car But at just 3 years old the automatic gear box on the Kadjar has failed resulting in a lengthy visit to the garage (>10 days) as a part (something to do with the clutch??) has to be ordered Thankfully an extended warranty was purchased! -
SEAT Ibiza 1.0 TSi - Main Dealer, Specialist or Indie service 21 Aug 2023 (Forum)
Does anyone think that the car would be worth less at trade in time, without a full main dealer service history? Would still have a full service history, but the last 2 or 3 wouldn’t be main dealer. -
Travelling abroad - when possible. 14 May 2021 (Forum)
