  In the motor car sale, a 1970 Ferrari 365 GT/4 Daytona Spider fetched £568,000, a 1934 Rolls-Royce 20/25 3 Position ‘Owen Sedanca’ by Gurney Nutting went for £132,840 and a 1929 Aston Martin 1 ½ Litre Short Chassis by Bertelli sold for £180,000. Other important results included a 1960 Porsche 356 Super 90 Roadster, one of 205 built, which sold for £153,000, a 1963 Maserati 3500 for £149,640, a 1963 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III Convertible for £136,200, and a 1967 Jaguar E-type Series 1 4.2 Roadster for £130,600.

  .   March is usually one of the busiest months for new registrations, so, according to Paul Everitt of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), it should provide a clearer indication of the true health of the industry. He added: “It is extremely important that the Chancellor uses this month’s Budget to strengthen consumer and business confidence by encouraging private sector investment and avoiding any further squeeze on living standards.” The SMMT expects total 2012 registrations to be around 1.2million, behind last year’s 1.4million.
