  Retro Classics 2016: Cars from the Louwman Museum to star at Stuttgart 22 Jan 2016 (News)
  Started in 1934, the Lowman Museum collection boasts around 230 cars, including some famous ones like the taxi from The Godfather, plus and Aston Martin that appeared in the James Bond movies Goldfinger and Thunderball. One of the star cars of the display will be a 1933 Mercedes-Benz Type Nurburg 500 – the previous owner was the last German emporer Wilhelm II, who lived in exile in the Netherlands at that time. The saloon car weighs nearly 3000kg thanks to the fact it is lightly armoured.

  Auction Results: Barons 9 Oct 2019 (News)
  The E-type, which has been the subject of a £60,000 restoration, sold for £71,500 at Sandown Park race course on Friday, September 20. The E-type was followed by a 1968 Mercedes-Benz W113 290SL Pagoda, an original UK RHD car, which achieved £66,000. The third highest price of the day was the £25,850 achieved for the 1936 Ford Model 68 with safari roof, which thoroughly exceeded its £17,000 top estimate.

  Comparing one-year-old examples of the segment’s best-selling diesel models in November 2007 with an identical group of the same age in November 2008, EurotaxGlass’s uncovered an additional average fall in value of £7,263, equivalent to a further 21 per cent off the trade-in price. Vehicles evaluated included the Audi A8, BMW 7 Series, Jaguar XJ and Mercedes S-Class. The model experiencing the greatest increase in depreciation within this segment has been the Mercedes-Benz S320 CDI. A one-year-old example in November 2007 had an average trade value of £43,350, but this month an identical model of the same age is worth £33,250, representing an additional £10,100, or 23 per cent, fall in value.

  Four BMW Bubblecars in Historics 26th November Auction 17 Oct 2016 (News)
  A collector has consigned eight microcars to Historics 26th November Classic Car Auction at Mercedes Benz World, Weybridge and these include four BMW Bubblecars. Star of the show is this rare and valuable twin-cylinder 1958 BMW 600 'Limousine'. The model was built from 1957 to 1959 using parts from the Isetta bubblecar and the 582cc flat-twin engine from BMW's R67 motorcycle delivering just under 20HP.

  JD Power names Skoda ‘most dependable’ brand 7 Aug 2015 (News)
  BMW is the worst ranked premium manufacturer, and third-bottom overall with 196 problems. In contrast, Mercedes-Benz tops the premium charts, with 88 problems. SEAT and Peugeot both have 99 problems – and a glitch is one. Probably anyway, because JD Power found that five of the top 11 problems relate to technology – audio, communication, entertainment and navigation, that is.

  Hot on the heels of the 911 is the Ford Sierra, with a 71% pass rate Porsche does well in the 1990s too, with the 911 once again topping the chart with a 75.8% pass rate. Second, with 67% pass rate is the Mercedes-Benz SLK while the Jaguar XK8 takes third with 63% of cars passing. In fact, when it comes to top 10 cars from the 1990s, both Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar get three entries apiece, with large saloons - like the 190E and XJ6 -  filling the middle ground.

  Essen probably still has the edge for British fans - it's closer, and has more UK dealer presence - but Retro Classics is located in the heart of Swabia's car building area, and has true manufacturer presence from Porsche and Mercedes-Benz, and is catching up fast. The show itself is spread across nine halls, is impeccably organized, with special, themed displays. The stand-out areas are Hall One, which was packed with upmarket dealers, Hall Seven, which offered private individuals the opportunity to sell some pretty interesting cars, and Porsche and Mercedes-Benz's offerings via their own museums.

  Repatriated to Scotland, the 1913 Argyll 12hp Torpedo Tourer made £34,720, while the other Edwardian on offer – a 1910 Renault AX Tourer – fetched £22,035. Last word should go to the Mercedes-Benz-based Excalbur (below), which amazingly found a buyer for £30,510. The car, which is the last world in vulgarity, took two years to complete with the body being entirely re-sculpted using Kevlar and fibreglass.

  Philip Kantor, Bonhams European head of motoring, said, ‘We achieved astonishing prices across the board and found new owners for some of the most historically important cars to come to public auction in Monaco in recent memory. Other highlights included a 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster at €1,219,000 (£1,064,597), a 1973 Porsche 911 2.7 Carrera RS Touring Sunroof Coupé that made €575,000 (£502,169), and a 1953 Alfa Romeo 1900 Corto Gara Stradale hammered away for €414,000 (£361,569).

  Jaguar E-type doubles its estimate at auction 13 Jun 2016 (News)
  An unfinished, chassis-up restoration project, it sold for £16,500. Another strong seller was a 1967 Mercedes-Benz 250SL Pagoda (£47,300), which was in original condition after 30 years in storage. At the other end of the price spectrum, an enthusiast snapped up an unrestored 1968 Triumph Vitesse 2-litre ‘barn find’ for just £450, and can now settle into enjoying the restoration project.

  Retromobile 2016: Porsche 550 Spyder could make £2.5m at auction 4 Dec 2015 (News)
  Designed specifically for competition, the aerodynamic 550 Spyder was launched in 1953. It will be joined at the sale by a restored Mercedes-Benz 300SL ‘Gullwing’ – estimated to fetch up to £1.2m. Both cars will be among a handpicked roster of 60 cars. Max Girardo, RM Sotheby’s Europe managing director says Porsche 550 Spyders rarely come to auction. ‘It is a real delight to be able to offer this important Frankfurt show car at our Paris sale,’ said Girardo.

  The New Year sale also extends to Europcar’s Prestige fleet, with 30 per cent off vehicles such as the Mercedes-Benz S Class available from £84 a day. There’s also 20 per cent saving to be made on van hire, with vehicles available from under £15 per day. "After the expense of the festive season, we're aiming to help our customers kick start the New Year for less," said Ken McCall of Europcar UK.
