  • Astra van sportive - Dashboard air bag warning light 12 May 2016 (Forum)
I have my suspicions it could be a poor connection under the passenger seat I tried disconnecting the battery and removing the plug under the seat but it's very awkward and I could not get the plug to disconnect , after pushing the red connector I thought it should come apart . Do I have to do anything else .

  • C200 Kompressor 3 dr manual coupe 20,000 miles - Mercedes antenna repair 2 Mar 2016 (Forum)
Mercedes tell me antenna has malfunctioned and only way to check is to remove (and probably replace) rear windscreen at over £800 plus VAT.  Have already paid over £90 for diagnostic and key battery replacement.  I cannot believe Mercedes would design a car with an antennae that can only be reached through the rear windscreen. An antennae is not a consumable and has been placed in an almost inaccessible place.
  • Installing a voltmeter 28 Feb 2016 (Forum)
A voltmeter to show the general state of the battery and the charging system seems like something worth having.  Not something you might want to mess about with on a newer car but useful on an older vehicle for 'health monitoring' to spot problems early.
  • Ford Fiesta 1.8D 1999 - Fiesta diesel slow to start 11 Jan 2016 (Forum)
Hi, The vehicle is taking 8 or 9 seconds to start from cold.  Starting from warm is fine.  Car runs OK otherwise. I replaced the battery but no improvement.  Took it to a garage and asked them to replace the glow plugs which they did but still no better. Perhaps the garage didn't do a good job.  How would I go about testing the glow plugs to make sure they're working correctly.
  • Volvo XC70 - Cold start issues 24 Nov 2015 (Forum)
My local garage (usually very good) seem bemused; i have thus far had new glow plugs, new battery and a replacement injector which was stuck apparently. These have improved its capacity to start but not resolved the cold start issue. Can anyone suggest what might be the issue here, please?
  • Vauxhall Vectra C - fuse box. 22 Sep 2015 (Forum)
The lights on the heater control panel are not operating on my daughters car. Also no fan speeds at all. It recently had a new battery fitted after the original failed. Tracing the voltage to the panel back to the fuse box pasenger side, and have found that the right hand bank of fuses FL18 -FL26 have no voltage to them at all.
  • Audi A4 - Brake warning light on startup 14 Aug 2015 (Forum)
I initially thought it was down to the car being left on a slope but this has now been dis proved. There is some mention on the forums of the fault being down to a poor battery. The last time it happened I cured it by topping up the fluid. But the fluid is up to th filer level as I find it impossible to see the level through the master cylinder casing. Grateful your help.
  • Mazda CX5 Automatic 2.2D - Mazda Intermittent Fault 23 Jan 2015 (Forum)
Could not repeat the fault later but booked in garage to check but they could not find a fault. Days later the car battery was dead. I know 100% that I turned the engine off, no lights on, all doors closed and car alarm set the night before. In the morning, all doors except boot, unlocked. Again garage could find no fault?
  • Hyundai gets 1300 gsi 2004 petrol - start up noise on Hyundai getz 29 Dec 2014 (Forum)
Car starts up fine with no hesitation at all and runs and drives like new. It is fitted with a more powerful battery, don't know if that makes a difference. Cars only done 21k with FSH so its probably done a lot of short journeys.   Any ideas what this could be?
  • Citroen C5 2003 - Citroen Poor Starting 5 Dec 2014 (Forum)
The engine seems to turn over but won't "catch".  I had heater plugs/filters checked and even bought a new Bosch battery with a 5 yr guarantee, which tests OK.  The problem seems worse in extreme temperatures i.e. very hot or very cold.  Dont'know alot about diesel engines but seems like poor compression?  Fuel starvation?
  • Vauxhall Omega - Car wont start after standing for a year 9 Nov 2014 (Forum)
I put a gallon of petrol in as the tank was almost empty (light flashing on dash) Charged the battery and started it up. It started first time. I let it run for a few minutes then drove it down the road, where after about 50 yards, it cut out. Now it wont start at all.. It turns over fine, but just wont kick into life.
  • Ford Focus refuses to start 22 Sep 2014 (Ask HJ)
I 2005 Ford Focus will not start. I went to start it for work and had no ignition light, while a loud buzzing noise came from the fusebox area. The digital...
  • vauxhall vectra c - 3 button flip key fob loses programming 29 Jun 2014 (Forum)
It is intermittent. the car will lock/unlock most of the time, but then out of the blue the fob will die, and i will have to unlock manually, setting off the alarm, before putting key in ignition and pressing a button. Although its easy to reprogram, it is annoying, especially late at night. The battery is good (it unlocks from distance). The s****** is happy to relieve me of £130 to make a duplicate. Its my only key and i'm sure there is a better, cheaper way round it! Should i take the fob apart and inspect?
  • Audi A3 8PA sportback 1.9tdi 2005 - Opening and closing windows with central locking 27 Feb 2014 (Forum)
Also worried that perhaps a faulty window motor control may be causing an electrical drain as battery not holding charge. Mak
  • Opel Corsa Spaort 1994 C14SE - heater control panel lights cutting out 17 Feb 2014 (Forum)
Now everything works BUT when I turn on the heater knob to heat and the AC cut out switch opens the backing lights go out and the ignition (battery logo) comes on on the dash. I think it may be an earth problem but if it is, where?.

  • Fiat Punto - Boot lock 23 Apr 2013 (Forum)
That seems very expensive so are there any suppliers who will sell a new lock that I can get fitted by our local garage or can the existing unit be refurbished ?. I have recently replaced the battery in the key fob but to no avail. At the moment we can only acess the boot by dropping the back seats. Your advice would be much appreciated. Thank you. • Citroen Xsara Picasso - Engine stopped turning over 19 Apr 2013 (Forum)
Also there is a beeping sound when I turn the key with messages about airbag fault, immobiliser and low fuel (although it has half a tank). I tried to jump it but no luck. I've heard various opinions that it could be a completely dead battery, the immobiliser or the starter motor. I don't know if its relevant but there was a very heavy downpour at the time. Thanks in advance.
  • RENAULT CLIO 1.5 DCI 2004 - ALTERNATOR CLUTCH PULLEY SHEARED 29 Mar 2013 (Forum)
The only warning was a light buzzing or vibrating noise for a few minutes before.  Then the stop and battery light came on. So, the pulley is still attached to the alternator but tabout half of the ringed or ridged section has gone.  What would cause this, is it a common fault and does it mean my alternator needs replacing?
