  • MGB Engine Rebuild Advice 7 Aug 2007 (Forum)
I have just bought a 1980 MGB GT that has sat since 1999. The engine starts and runs rough as one would expect after all that time but is blowing a good deal of smoke from the filler cap so I assume that the bores/rings are worn. Has anyone any hints or tips specific to rebuilding one of these b-series engines other than the obvious swap to a V8?!?

  • Small cars 25 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Now I understand that we live in an overcrowded country full of undersized parking spaces, narrow roads, and small cars are also cheaper to buy and run, if that's a concern, but is there anybody that really *likes* them, other than as a consequence of our undersized nation?

  • Volvo V70 late 01 model - Engine Tuning 21 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I have the 140bhp 2.4-litre, 5-cylinder engine in the V70 and whilst it runs well, I've heard that it is the same as the engine that pumps out 170bhp. Does anyone know who, in Derbyshire, can tune the engine and release the extra 30bhp, which I understand will increase power & mpg (so, actually quite good for the environment).
  • Xstream Red antifreeze/Old Landcruiser 20 Jun 2007 (Forum)
It's Ethylene glycol base, silicate free with Organic Acid Technology, but the Comma web site recommends the green one, which is ethylene glycol, nitrite, amine and phosphate free. I've been running the Red for a few years, after a thorough flush, with no apparent problems, and would like to continue using it as it comes pre-mixed.

  • Previa tappet? 30 May 2007 (Forum)
Hi, Bit of advice needed...I have a 2002 Toyota Previa (60,000m) which is running fine except yesterday when started made a loud tapping sound. The sound faded after a min. on tickover and is now inaudible and the engine sounds and feels fine. My initial reaction when I heard it was tappets but why would it fade and then be fine on subsequent starts even when cold?
  • Rover Streetwise- 21 May 2007 (Forum)
Considering the problems that Rover had with overheating is there any recommended antifreeze or do I simply to up the resevoir with water till the next service. The car is now seviced at Halfords and runs very well but I am a bit worried given the demise of Rover. Can anyone recommend a suitable alternative regarding servicing or am I getting a bit paranoid?
  • BMW Compact Buying Advice 17 May 2007 (Forum)

  • BMC 'A' Series SU carburettor needle 26 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Could anyone advise what carburettor needle is appropriate for a 998 A series with a single 1 1/2 inch H4 SU? The carb is from a 1275 and has a DZ needle and (amazingly?) appears to run quite well on the 998, but it can't be optimum. I'm sure some 998's used the 1 1/2 inch SU, but I can't find the needle information anywhere. JS
  • 306 d turbo intercooler 25 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Hi i am thinking of increasing the boost on my 306 d turbo. I have heard if you run more than 18psi of boost you have to uprate the intercooler. Would it make a difference mounting the origional intercooler at the front behind the bumper rather than on top of the hot engine. If anyone has tuned there d turbo can you tell me what you did and what, if any difference it made.
  • VW Polo Rear Washer Not Working 23 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Help, anyone? The rear washer on my daughter's 1999 5 door Polo has stopped working. I can hear the pump running, I can smell the cleaner, but nothing's coming out at the nozzle. It appears that a pipe has become loose behind the rear door panel, but can't see how to remove the panel to check/fix. Any words of wisdom on how to get the panel off would be appreciated.

  • VW Sharan Overheating 20 Mar 2007 (Forum)
The temperature gauge creeps up towards the red when travelling about 70mph, turning the heater on full blast brings it back to nearly normal but i am roasted alive. Running round locally it seems to behave itself. The fans operate on the radiator but wonder weather they come on at the right time or could it be a suspect thermostat. Anyone out there with more ideas greatly appreciated.
