  • Cars to have stainless steel fuel tanks 21 Mar 2002 (Forum)
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the U.S., vehicles account for about 60% of the country's total emissions of carbon monoxide, 31% of nitrogen oxides, 30% of volatile organic compounds, and eight percent of particulate matter. One source of these emissions is fuel vapour that permeates the walls of conventional plastic tanks at a rate of about two grams per day.
  • Congestion Charging - A success? 9 Jul 2004 (Forum)
By reducing the overall volumes of traffic within the charging zone, and increasing the efficiency with which it circulates, congestion charging has been directly responsible for reductions of approximately 12 percent in emissions of both oxides of nitrogen (NOx)and fine particles (PM10) from road traffic (based on 24-hour annual average day); One could argue that TFL have a vested interest in declaring the scheme a success but I cannot believe they have invented the statistics.
  • Blameless diesels need better friends 12 Mar 2015 (Forum)
Euro 6 has already all but eliminated particulates from diesel exhausts and put them close to petrol engines as low producers of smog-inducing oxides of nitrogen - while maintaining the diesel’s long-time attraction of producing around 20% less CO2 than equivalent petrol units. Car manufacturers have become alarmed by what they see as inappropriate parking penalties about to be imposed on diesel cars by London boroughs , by suggestions that Paris may be the first of several European capitals to ban diesels from its centre , and by highly publicised academic research that has failed to acknowledge latest technological advances.
