Hi, I have a 2004 Volkswagen Sharan 1.9 TDI SE that I did not use left on my driveway for 2 years. Just been so busy that I didn't get to it until today. I change the oil as someone said give it a new oil service and plugs I did this and it ran ok for few weeks but the lights back on. I have had it plugged in and it has fault codes for mis Fire on cylinder, low battery drive and oxygen failure so fitted new battery I'm now fairly convinced it maybe the lambda sensor as the engine ticks and runs fine but the light stays on. Is it worth spending more money on a new sensor??? -

Hi, can anyone please help, im at the end of my tether. last year my fan belt started making screeching noises, then just before Christmas the belt broke, we got it replaced then a few days later the new one started screeching too, we tried lubricants etc, to no avail. Then the car started to lose power so the battery was checked and it was fine, so we were told it was probably the alternator. So we got a second hand one put in and for two days it worked fine, then the screeching started again and the again ther battery wouldnt charge. the garage said the alternator wasnt working, so we got a new alternator and for 2 days it worked fine, then the screeching was back, so the garage said it can only be the water pump now, so replaced it free for us, ive just picked it up from the garage and less than a mile down the road the screeching has started again. mechanic has just said hes tested everything and it seemed fine so he is completely baffled..... -

The car has power & seems fine but when you turn the ignition the power shuts off like a dead battery. The battery has been checked & is almost brand new, so its defiantly not that. If you open & shut the doors & boot the power comes back on, alarm & central locking then works as normal. -

I am really worried about this, especially as the car is beginning to play up in other ways now, such as displaying "flat battery" symptoms when the battery is fully charged and tests out perfectly.I have been alarmed to hear of others with the same problem who have been faced with repair costs of thousands. Surely, these vehicles should not be "write offs" at 100000 miles.Has anyone managed to overcome this without bankrupting themselves or scrapping the vehicle? -

The AA mechanic suspected the brushes in my alternator had gone. I have had a brand new alternator and battery fitted. Last night whilst driving home, the car started to show signs of power failure again. My wiper blades slowed down, headlights dimmed and the radio switched off. What other issues can cause power failure as I am confident it is neither the alternator or the battery. -
